The Acadian Seaplants Manufacturing Team is seeking positive, dependable, Spring/Summer Seasonal Labourers at our manufacturing facility in Charlesville, Nova Scotia. This is a great opportunity for local candidates (including students on summer break!) who would like to join a strong, motivated team at our world-class, one-of-a kind facility. These seasonal positions will run from May to August.

Jobs are available working both day and night shift. Jobs include inspection, processing, and packaging positions. Duties depend on the role, and consist of a combination system sanitization, data collection, equipment operation, and moving and handling of seaweed.

Previous experience working as a Labourer would be a bonus. No workplace training? That’s okay too! Training will be provided. You must have a strong commitment to health and safety and be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.

We are currently seeking a Seasonal Runway Operator from May - October to work at our Pennfield, NB location.

The Runway Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the tractors and equipment used in the seaweed drying process.

Duties include spreading, drying, tedding, raking, chopping, sweeping vacuuming, weighing, foreign debris removal, and storing all harvested material.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

•Knowledge in the operation and proper daily maintenance of farm-type equipment
•Experience in operating mobile equipment
•Ability to operate tractors safely
•Familiarity with requirements under NB Workplace Health and Safety Act
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere with great attitude
• Good organization skills and be innovative

In addition to being seasonal, this position requires long hours and weekend work at times. Work hours are weather dependent.

Acadian Seaplants Limited, North America’s largest independent producer and exporter of seaweed-based products serving agricultural and food markets in over 80 countries worldwide requires an experienced Seasonal Truck Driver for our Pennfield, New Brunswick operations.

Reporting to the Trucking Supervisor, the Seasonal Truck Driver will be a results-driven individual who is always looking for opportunities for improvement and has the ability to work up to 6 days per week from May through October. All pick-ups are local which means being home every night.

Key Responsibilities:

• Loading and transporting seaweed from various local beaches and wharfs to our facility in Pennfield, New Brunswick.
• Routine maintenance of truck and lifting equipment.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• Must have valid class 1 or 3 drivers’ license;
• Availability to work varied hours;
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions;

Summer Employment Opportunity!

Acadian Seaplants Limited is looking for an energetic individual to join the team for a 16-week term, starting May 9, 2022.

This is a full time, seasonal role that includes a large amount of time spent outdoors and travelling to conduct field work. The role will support two key areas, namely the Resource Science group as a Field Assistant and in Manufacturing as Raw Material Inspector.

Field Assistant Responsibilities:

It is expected that the individual would spend about 50% of his/her time as a Field Assistant supporting the Resource Scientist during data collection for various intertidal field research studies, detailed lab measurement studies and annual biomass surveys related to the Ascophyllum nodosum (Rockweed) resources in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Raw Material Inspector Responsibilities:

It is expected that the individual would spend about 50% of his/her time as Raw Material Inspector measuring and documenting quality related data from our raw material inputs. This position will include outside and indoor work.

More Specifically:

• Measure Fucus and other foreign seaweed content rates in harvested material.
• Measure Holdfast & By-Catch content in harvested material.
• Analyze data, identify trends and prepare reports.

The Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a B.Sc. program (or related field) and eligible for the EcoCanada grant program.
• Live in the Saint John, NB region.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Be able and prepared to work flexible hours and to accommodate his/her schedule according to the tides (i.e. early morning, late evening and weekends).
• Be physically fit to walk and work long hours in the rocky intertidal zone.
• Must have reliable transportation to use while onsite.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Be prepared to work away from home for periods of 1-2 weeks at a time, if required.
• Be able to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.

Ideal Qualities:

• Previous scientific field work experience would be considered an asset.
• Experience launching and operating small boats would be considered an asset.
• Experience working in the marine environment/Bay of Fundy would be considered an asset.

Acadian Seaplants Seasonal Truck Drivers are responsible for the safe transit of seaweed from wharves to the Yarmouth facility. Drivers are also responsible for the regular inspection and care of their assigned truck.

Candidates must be committed to supporting the company’s vision and policies regarding Health & Safety, Corporate Culture, Environmental Management and the Progressive Excellence Program.

Hours/Seasonality:
· Daytime Seasonal Truck Driver – Approx. June to October, approx. 44 to 60 hours per week

Truck Maintenance:
· Perform regular maintenance functions on trucks such as changing oil, greasing, checking tire pressure etc.
· Assist maintenance personal in performing routine and large-scale maintenance as assigned.
· Complete inspection of assigned truck at the beginning of each shift.
· Complete a Driver’s Daily Log that includes a detailed Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Report.
· Driver must immediately prompt maintenance for repair of any defective equipment.

Hauling of Seaweed:
· Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner within the operating parameters set by Acadian Seaplants and the Department of Transportation.
· Monitor the trucking phone line for pick-up and delivery of loads of seaweed.
· Regular inspection of each load and its perimeter at the wharf for any sign of contamination.

Qualifications:

· Valid class 3 or class 1 drivers license in good standing
· Air endorsement
· Clean drivers abstract
· Experience safely operating a 5 ton truck
· Grade 12 or GED and five years of truck driving experience would be an asset; additional related experience may offset education
· WHMIS 2015 would be an asset
· First aid certification would be an asset
· Must be able to read and write in English
· Working safely is a condition of employment

If an offer of employment is extended, it is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of background checks including references, a criminal record check and Driver’s Abstract. Employees who perform well in their first season, will be eligible for health benefits and pension plan participation on commencement of the second season.

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Operator runs equipment within the required specifications within a highly automated and modern production facility. There are procedures for the Operator to follow, but the job also requires the Operator to think critically, problem-solve, and make adjustments as necessary. The Operator will also be responsible for maintaining a clean work area and helping out in other areas of the plant as needed.

Responsibilities:

· Follow all standard operating
procedures in a safe and timely manner.
· Record all required data on daily shift
reports.
· Operate mobile equipment in a safe manner.
· Maintain housekeeping in accordance with 5S and safety requirements.
· Report any incidents or accidents to the Supervisor immediately.
· Be flexible and open to cross-training.
· Support the needs of the team by displaying a passion for achieving results.

Qualifications:

· Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent is desired. Experience in a processing plant environment would be an asset. Experience with rotating shiftwork in a 24/7 operation is preferred.
· Basic computer skills and basic math skills are required.
· Candidates must be motivated to learn other operations of the plant and take on additional responsibilities.
· Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
· Attention to detail and a desire to get the job done, and done right.
· Must have reliable personal transportation

3rd Class Power Engineer, two openings (1 full-time and 1 casual) – Cornwallis, Nova Scotia

Role

Reporting to the Chief Power Engineer, the Power Engineer performs a variety of tasks to ensure the safe, efficient and continuous operation of the boiler and all related equipment at the Deveau Center, a third class plant operating within the manufacturing facility. It also means monitoring air compressors, cooling tower, building mechanical systems, operation of production equipment as well as related equipment in the Maintenance Shop.

Responsibilities

· Perform regular boiler operation and preventative maintenance duties

· Maintain, monitor, test and repair boilers, air compressors, and cooling tower

· Maintain performance, quality and safety documentation

· Improve plant efficiency via monitoring and adjusting operations

· Troubleshoot and corrective actions for mechanical breakdowns

· Document all daily activities in the Engineers Log Book

· Comply with all applicable provincial and federal standards and regulations

· Support vision and policies on Health & Safety, Corporate Culture andEnvironmental Management

Qualifications

· Grade 12 or Community College with a strong aptitude for both math and sciences

· Third Class Power Engineers Certification and related experience, preferably in a manufacturing context

· Operational knowledge of multi-fuel boilers would be an asset

· Positive and proactive team player who is capable to work with little or no supervision

· Works calmly under pressure and adapts to tight time constraints

· Very good troubleshooting skills and excellent mechanical aptitude and skills

Hours of Work

· Must be willing and able to work rotating 12.5 hour shifts, both day and night for a 24/7/365 operation

· Overtime may be required
