What does it take to grow millions of high-quality perennials year after year?

We were excited to be part of a recent Greenhouse Management article featuring Walters Gardens, one of North America’s leading wholesale perennial growers.

Since its beginnings as a five-acre farm in 1946, Walters Gardens has grown into one of North America’s leading wholesale perennial growers, with 1,500 acres of land, 500,000 square feet of greenhouse space and more than 19 million perennial liners shipped annually across the U.S.

At the heart of their production program is Head Grower Emily McKay, whose focus on careful production practices helps maintain the quality and consistency Walters Gardens is known for.

For more than eight years, Pace Plant Health products, including Pace Kleengrow have been part of Walters Gardens’ production protocol, supporting their efforts to maintain clean growing environments, protect plant quality and keep such a large-scale growing operation performing at its best.

As Emily shares: “The biggest effect we have noticed is with more thorough cleaning of greenhouse areas between crops, there is reduced disease, insect and w**d pressures,” McKay states. “We are happy with the disease control we get with KleenGrow when used for bacteria, and I am sure there are other benefits to utilizing it as a spray as well. Additionally, we do find it to be one of the more cost-effective chemistries.”

"The real prize wasn't the title. It was knowing the grower."

Harrell's, a valued Pace Plant Health distribution partner, invited us to present at their annual sales meeting in San Diego in late August. We decided to do something a little different.
Instead of leading with product features and presentations, we challenged attendees with a trivia game built around real-grower testimonials collected over the past two years. The challenge was simple identify the grower behind each story.

What followed was more than friendly competition. It sparked conversations about the growers we serve, the challenges they face, and the successes they achieve every day.

Last week at the Farwest Nursery Show in Portland, Paul Pilon – Pace 49 National Sales Manager, had the opportunity to recognize Scott Renfro, Harrell's Territory Manager for Oregon, as the 2026 Pace Plant Health / Harrell's Trivia Champion.

As spring arrives, shifting temperatures and rising humidity create ideal conditions for powdery mildew to develop and spread rapidly, especially inside greenhouse structures.

Identifying Powdery Mildew on Most Ornamentals

• Whitish-gray, talcum-like powdery patches on upper leaf surfaces

• These patches (colonies) often coalesce to completely cover
leaves, stems, and in some cases, the entire plant.

•Sometimes confused with spray residue.

Managing Powdery Mildew and Other Diseases

Besides managing the humidity levels in the production area, maintaining disease control on surfaces, in water and on crops is essential to reducing cross-contamination and development of pathogens.

Pace 49 attended and exhibited at Indoor Ag-Con Conference in Las Vegas Nevada last week. Indoor Ag-Con is touted as being the largest controlled environment agriculture (CEA) trade show and conference. CEA includes greenhouse production, vertical farming, and indoor crop systems.

Think hydroponics and greenhouse vegetables such as lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. These may be the most recognized crops, but there are a number of other specialty or niche crops being produced in these environments.

Announcement: No Mislabeling of Pace UpTake PRO or Pace Strip-It PRO

Recently, a post on a page suggested that 55-gallon drums of Pace UpTake PRO and Pace Strip-It PRO were mislabeled.

We would like to clarify that there was no mislabeling issue. All drums contained the products indicated on their labels.

Both Pace Strip-It PRO and Pace UpTake PRO were tested by Nick Feudale-Kurt Weiss Greenhouses, Inc., and the results confirmed that each product was correctly labeled and formulated (see videos below).

The chemicals poured on the floor were handled properly using “the proper chemical spill cleaning directions” at the completion of these tests.
