The digging for the wetland interspersion project at Lynde Shores Conservation Area is almost completed! The only original open water area is the small pool closest to Victoria Street. All the other open water areas and channels have been added by Mike Redpath Dragline Service. By bringing back the balance of open water and variation in water depth, plant diversity and animal diversity will also increase, resulting in a healthier marsh. This photo was taken last week (March 19) and faces east with Victoria Street on the right.

This is the first of three projects in Lynde Shores' Resilience and Restoration Plan funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada through The Great Lakes Freshwater Ecosystem Initiative.

Your weekly photo update 🎉The digging continues! This aerial photo was taken on February 3 (image faces east with Victoria Street on the right).

The draglines have finished digging the two open water areas near Victoria Street and are digging channels north into the marsh. Eventually, several more open water areas will be added, which will help restore the healthy balance of open water and plants in the Lynde Marsh.

Another project underway! 🦆

In the early 90’s, my family built this d**e surrounding this wetland for Ducks Unlimited to control the water levels within the cell from the fluctuating water levels of Lake Ontario.

Over the course of 30 years, it had silted in enough to starve the pump station of water and we are still around to assist them in getting it operational once again.

With a couple thousand more feet of erosion blanket and the removal of our equipment. We will be wrapping up this project and be spending the remainder of December preparing for the next one.

Mike Redpath Dragline Service is based out of Douro Dummer township and provides dragline service throughout southern Ontario.

We have accomplished building many new ponds, cleaned out existing overgrown ponds & deepening to keep debris & new growth to a minimum for years to come.
