This one’s a bit different for me this year…

A couple years ago I was part of the
Amazing Race Cowichan — but on the volunteer side, helping things run behind the scenes.

This year, Island Boiler & Hot Water is officially in the race.

June 18th — we’ll be out there running across the Cowichan Valley, hitting pit stops, solving challenges, and seeing how we stack up.

Big thanks to the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce for putting this together again. It’s a great event for the community.

Hey everyone—just wanted to introduce myself properly.

My name’s AJ, I’m local here in the Cowichan Valley. I work on home heating and hot water systems—things like tanks, boilers, furnaces, and heat pumps.

I’ve been in the trades a long time (gas fitting, refrigeration, plumbing), and something I’ve been seeing more and more lately…

A lot of homeowners are being told they need to replace everything.

Sometimes that’s true—but a lot of the time, it’s not.

There are plenty of systems—whether it’s a furnace, hot water tank, or even a heat pump—that can still be:
• Repaired
• Serviced
• Kept running properly for years

Especially right now, not everyone wants to drop thousands on a full upgrade—and I completely get that.

My approach is simple:
Give you the real condition of your system and let you decide what makes sense.

If anyone ever has questions about heating or hot water, I’m happy to help where I can.

Didn’t expect this to happen…

A few days ago I met with Rhonda Downing, our March winner of the $250 Slap That Gas giveaway 💰🔥

What started as a quick drop-off turned into something a lot more meaningful.

Rhonda invited me in, and I ended up sitting down with her and her family for dinner — great food, lots of laughs, and some really good conversation.
