What's Changed?

One of the biggest hazards on any job site isn't always obvious.
It's assuming that today's conditions are the same as yesterday's.

In drilling and construction, conditions can change quickly. Weather, ground stability, site access, nearby contractors, traffic patterns, utility locates, and equipment conditions can all introduce new hazards from one day to the next.

That's why taking a few minutes before work begins to stop and ask "What's Changed?" is such a powerful safety tool.
At Pontil Drilling Services, we encourage our teams to continually assess changing conditions and communicate potential hazards before work starts. A strong hazard assessment isn't just paperwork—it's an opportunity to identify risks, implement controls, and prevent incidents before they occur.

Before you begin your next task, take a moment to:
✔ Assess the work area
✔ Verify site conditions
✔ Check equipment readiness
✔ Communicate changes with your crew
✔ Confirm hazards and controls

Sometimes the simplest question can have the biggest impact.

So...What's changed today?

Safety on a drilling site goes far beyond just wearing PPE — it’s about communication, awareness, and making sure every worker goes home safe at the end of the day.
Some key reminders for anyone working around drilling operations:
✔️ Never approach a running rig without communication from the driller
✔️ Maintain safe working distances from operating equipment
✔️ Ensure auger guards are in place anytime tooling is turning
✔️ Stay clear during loading and unloading operations
✔️ Confirm kill switches are functional before starting work
✔️ Always remain aware of overhead lines, locates, changing site conditions, and nearby equipment

External hazards matter just as much as the drill rig itself — traffic control, pedestrians, hydro excavation requirements, and surrounding heavy equipment all need to be considered before work begins.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility onsite. A strong safety culture starts with awareness, communication, and looking out for one another.

The schedule is loaded this month which has been been a welcome reprieve from the last years ups and downs.

There will be a lot of augers rolling through the shop in the coming weeks to be hardfaced.

Shop days don’t get much spotlight, but they’re where a lot of the real work happens.

Mat putting in the time to keep the gear ready, the details tight, and the next job set up to run smooth.

Quiet work that makes a big difference in the field.
