The 11th edition of CSA B52 provides minimum requirements for the design, construction, installation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical refrigeration systems. It contains recommendations and best practices and is not considered law until it is adopted by a jurisdiction.

The below picture is unacceptable practice. This refrigeration line has been soldered. The pipe sizing incorrectly. Tape on the insulation.

From the B52 Mechanical Refrigeration Code,

Brazed joint — a gas-tight joint obtained by joining metal parts with alloys that melt at temperatures higher than 427C (800F) but lower than the melting temperatures of the joined parts.

Soldered joint — a gas-tight joint formed by joining metal parts with alloys that melt at temperatures above 204C (400F) but not exceeding 427C (800F).

Clause 5.7.2.4 - The joints on copper tubing used in refrigeration systems shall be brazed. Soldered joints shall not be used in such refrigeration systems.
