In honor of Truth and Reconciliation Day, we gathered at Hill Plain, a proud Indigenous-owned company. We had the privilege of welcoming Stephanie Alexis, First Lady of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, who shared profound insights about the history of Alexis and the lasting impacts of residential schools.

After her enlightening reflections, Janice Alexis, guided us in the art of sewing Indigenous ribbon wear, helping us explore the significance of ribbon skirts and shirts. This was a meaningful and creative way to connect with Indigenous culture.

As we reflect on this important day, let’s continue to recognize the impact of our shared history and commit to the journey of Truth and Reconciliation.

As a Construction Company 100% owned by the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, we are committed to fostering Social Good through our guiding principles:

Maintaining the Nation’s Control: We prioritize maintaining control of all phases of on-reserve projects.

Optimizing Involvement: We actively involve the Nation in off-reserve projects.

Nation-to-Nation Collaboration: We encourage collaboration on projects between Nations.

Culturally Safe Environment: Our commitment extends to building the next generation of leaders through career development initiatives.

We also recognize the importance of acknowledging the history of the lands we reside on. As Dr. Rebecca Sockbeson wisely said, “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Our Hill Plain Community continues to learn and grow.

Please take a moment to explore ANSN newly launched Land Acknowledgement, which provides a distinct Indigenous perspective. As we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day, we also honor the art and culture that emanates from Alexis Nakota Sioux Members.

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Chief Francis. His journey away from this world has left a profound void in our hearts. Chief Francis was a cornerstone of Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, offering his wisdom, guidance, and unwavering support in every aspect of the journey. He was proud of his Stoney heritage and a dedicated advocate for the continuation of culture and language. He was a storyteller, a knowledge keeper, an entrepreneur, and above all, a cherished friend and mentor to many.

He has touched countless lives with his kindness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to uplifting others. While we at Hill Plain mourn his passing, we take solace in knowing that his memory will forever be etched in our hearts and minds. As we honour Chief Francis's remarkable legacy, let us cherish the lessons he imparted, the stories he shared, and the love he bestowed upon us all. Though he may have joined the ancestors, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.

On this fine Christmas Eve, we sit here reflecting and look back on how we’ve come this far. It couldn’t have been without our astounding team and reliable partnerships.

A big shout-out to our valued clients, consultants, community, and trade partners for supporting us in having a great, successful start-up year. It has been a pleasure working with you in 2023, and we value our collaborations immensely. Your trust and partnership are the cornerstones of our success, and we never take it for granted. May your holidays be filled with joy and happiness, and we wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We are honored to share this impressionable artwork from our very own, Eugene Alexis.

Today we honour National Indigenous Veterans Day. A long time ago these brave veterans were identified as warriors of their tribes. They gave themselves willingly not knowing if they would make it. We honour them in a good way for their sacrifices for us to be here. They would say things like today is a good day to die, so one day we could now say it’s an even better one to live.

The Native American Open golf tournament at Santa Ana Pueblo brought together 160 golfers from 71 Indigenous bands, nations, and tribes, representing 17 states and Canada. Skyesong Alexis, from the Alexis Nakoda Sioux Nation in Alberta, Canada, emerged as the women's champion, scoring 15 strokes lower than her nearest rival. Hill Plain Construction Services are beyond proud of Skyesong! Her message to the younger generation is to chase their dreams and believe in themselves.

Congratulating Skyesong Alexis on your impressive victories at the Native American Open! You inspire us with your dedication.🏌️🏆
