Today we celebrated a very special work Shaniversay. Dr. Shantel Koenig (Shantel Koenig) has been with Fiera for a whole decade. Always up for a bike ride and an adventure, you could not ask for a smarter, funnier, or more loyal and committed co-worker. We are very lucky to have been able to work with and learn from Shantel over the last 10 years. Thank you for your immense contributions to Fiera and to the management of wildlife and habitat in Alberta. Here is to many more miles on the bike and riparian habitat assessments!

We spent last week in southern Alberta conducting a survey of pheasant habitat on legal road allowances. For this project we used a combination of remote sensing, GIS, and ground truthing from vehicles and via drown imagery.

We have always been enthusiastic supporters of amateur sport here in Alberta, and this year we are thrilled to be the title sponsor of the mixed doubles curing team of Zoe Cinnamon and Johnson Tao . A few weeks ago Zoe and Johnson won the provincial title and this weekend they are representing Alberta at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship. GO TEAM CINNAMON TAO!!

Last weekend marked the first ever Track & Sign Certification in Saskatchewan, Canada. The event was centred around Waskesiu Lake within Prince Albert National Park. It was led by Track & Sign Specialist and CyberTracker Evaluator, Sage Raymond, and hosted by Fiera Biological.
Participants explored the tracks and signs of a wide range of species, including: wolves, river otters, fisher, marten, mink, red fox, coyote, muskrat, beaver, grouse, magpie, deer, elk, and shrew.
Many new certified trackers emerged!
