Our Story

THE METABOLOMICS INNOVATION CENTRE - TMIC

The Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC) is Canada’s national metabolomics core facility and technology development centre with facilities at the University of Alberta and at 3 other major research institutions in Canada (University of Victoria, McGill University, McMaster University). TMIC’s mandate is to provide researchers with world-class

resources for metabolomics research, including testing facilities, experimental methods, bioinformatics tools, and scientific expertise. Housing over $30 million in state-of-the-art metabolomics tools and employing over 15 scientists, managers, and administrators, TMIC supports cutting-edge technology development and biomarker research programs. TMIC develops novel tools, methods, and technology to study the metabolome and measure changes that can provide insights into health or disease. TMIC has developed and maintained many widely used metabolomics data analysis tools, including 18 databases and 11 software tools. Since 2011, The Metabolomics Innovation Centre has analyzed over 56 000 samples and conducted over 87 000 metabolomic assays for a highly diverse client base of more than 600 labs and companies from across the world. The Metabolomics Innovation Centre is a joint initiative of Genome Canada, Genome Alberta, Genome British Columbia, the University of Alberta, and the University of Victoria.
