In construction, there is no better feedback than word-of-mouth. In the past, when friends & family saw an amazing deck or a newly-renovated kitchen, they asked who did it.

As homeowners, we’re becoming more energy conscious. Over the last 2 years we’ve spent more time at home. And as a result, there has been a significant increase in energy usage, our gas and electric bills have gone up. 📈 So... will you have to put on a sweater or turn down the A/C? Not necessarily – with a few fixes, you can have your cake and eat it, too!

Start by installing energy-efficient appliances. These fridges, washers, furnaces, etc., do the same job as their predecessors but use less power and gas. ⚡🔥 whoo hoo! Secondly, consider installing better windows, doors, and/or insulation. If coolness/heat doesn’t escape your house, your A/C/furnace won’t have to work hard. 👍

But all this requires an up-front investment. Great news, you can spend less and still achieve your goals of having Energy-efficient improvements! The Energy Efficiency Alberta’s (EEA) Home Improvement REBATE PROGRAM can help with that. You can SAVE up to $1,500 on new windows, $1,000 on tankless water heaters, $3,500 on insulation, and more! 😍

You can even save on the cost of solar panels through The Residential and Commercial Solar Program – how cool is that? 🌞

🕯Ever wonder how we replace or add on stone/tile to a fireplace? 🔥

Its a simple 6 step process

👷Step One: Since we will be doing some demolition it is best to cover the fireplace by placing cardboard or builder board, any type of cardboard that is thick enough to withstand some damage.

🪵 Step Two: To be honest, sometimes during the tile removal process some of the drywall comes with it so you may need to install some drywall. If you are installing stone, it is preferable to install plywood that is the same thickness as the drywall, depending on your layout in some cases you may have corner pieces and may need to frame that out with 2X4 wood or whatever is needed in your case.

🗿Step Three: This only applies to certain stonework that requires a wired mesh to be installed on the wall but at this point, if necessary, you may apply a High Heat Flat Black after sanding off any residue left by the previous tile or stone.

💦 Step Four: Install your tile or stone with a good quality mortar to the desired design chosen, this is a difficult process that will need patience while cutting on a wet saw or grinder and placing the tile with plastic spacers or making sure the stone is placed in the right spots.

⌛️Step Five: 24 hours after the placement of stone or tile, you may now clean the grout lines of any mortar. Not all stone needs grout but some do, or you may choose to do so to fill in any gaps. After that, you may proceed to grout making sure you fill them in well and allowing 20 minutes before wiping off any residue.

🧽 Step Six: Once the grout is completely clean and dust-free you may choose to use a sealer on the grout or even on any natural stone you may have installed. For example, you may have installed large river rock from fist-sized to larger, but you want to give it a glossy wet look. Seal them multiple times with a glossy sealer with a brush, rag, or sponge.

There you have it a brand "new" fireplace, good work!
