Ever wonder what happens after you call your local one-call center? Here's the process:

You make the call and describe your project. Representatives are then sent to mark underground lines using colour-coded paint or flags. For natural gas, that colour is always yellow.

The whole process is free, and it gives you the peace of mind to dig with confidence.

A lot of people assume that if they don't see pipeline markers on their property, there's nothing buried underground. That's not always the case. Pipelines are buried for safety reasons, and markers only appear at certain points like road crossings and along rights of way.

The only way to know for sure what's beneath your feet is to call before you dig. A representative will come out and mark the location of underground utilities so you can work safely.

Planning a project in the yard? Whether you're putting up a new fence, planting a tree, or installing a deck, there's one step you should always take first β€” call your local one-call center.

Underground pipelines aren't always visible from the surface, and even a small digging project can cause serious damage if you don't know what's below.

It's a free call that takes just a few minutes, but it could save you from costly repairs, fines, and a dangerous situation.

Here's who to call depending on where you live: https://centrapipelines.com/call-before-you-dig/

🌾 Planning a project on your land? Check for a right-of-way first.

A few things to keep in mind about right-of-ways:
πŸ“ The pipeline may not run through the middle
πŸ“ Depth can vary β€” sometimes it's closer to the surface than you'd expect
πŸ“ Always call before any ground disturbance, no matter how minor

Here's something a lot of people don't realize: even a small scrape or dent on a buried pipeline can weaken it over time and lead to problems down the road. That's why it's so important to report any contact with a pipeline β€” even if the damage looks minor.

The best way to avoid this situation altogether? Call before you dig. Every time, every project, no exceptions.

If you do accidentally strike a pipeline, stop all work immediately and call 911 and our 24/7 emergency line at 1-800-770-3039.

Farmers β€” did you know your tractor can damage a pipeline without ever hitting it directly?

Heavy equipment crossing over a buried pipeline can compress the soil and put pressure on the pipe, even if you're not digging.

Before crossing the pipeline with machinery like graders, backhoes, tillers, trailers carrying heavy loads, or augers, you need to contact us first.

❌ MYTH: "Old pipelines are unsafe pipelines."

βœ… TRUTH: The U.S. Department of Transportation confirms that the age of a pipeline is not a leading cause of pipeline incidents. A well-maintained pipeline can operate safely for decades.

We back that up with 24/7 monitoring, regular inspections, air patrols of our rights-of-way, and internal inspection tools that catch issues before they become problems.

Maintenance matters more than age, and we take maintenance very seriously.

Even if you're not digging, certain activities near a pipeline right-of-way still require written consent.

Within the 30-metre prescribed area on either side of the pipeline's centre, activities like land clearing, drainage work, construction of structures, and even crossing with heavy vehicles off a roadway all require prior approval.

When in doubt, call!
