Spring has officially arrived in Nova Scotia … and apparently the raccoons got the memo before the rest of us. 🦝☀️cute critters but the calls are coming in…
While we’re soon opening windows and cleaning patios, mama raccoons are out house hunting for the perfect “fixer-upper” to raise their babies. Their must-have list includes:
✔️ Warm
✔️ Dry
✔️ Quiet
✔️ Absolutely NOT paying rent
Unfortunately, your home may check all the boxes. 😅
Every spring, raccoons start scouting cozy spots to move into before welcoming their little masked roommates in late April and May. And trust us… once they move in, they settle in like they signed a lease agreement.
Favourite raccoon real estate listings include:
🏠 Attics & Rooflines
Loose shingles, soffits, vents, and chimneys are basically raccoon front doors. Warm attic? Five-star maternity suite.
🚪 Sheds & Barns
Quiet, safe, and rarely disturbed — raccoons call this “country living.”
🪵 Under Decks & Porches
Dark, hidden, and protected from the weather. Think raccoon Airbnb.
If you hear scratching, thumping, or suspicious late-night “renovations” overhead… you may already have tenants. 🦝🔨
A little prevention now can save a whole lot of wildlife drama later this spring.
