In our latest One Story, One Method, One Takeaway, thermal paste was evaluated in both fresh and aged conditions to understand how performance evolves. While initial results met expectations, aging through drying introduced measurable changes in thermal conductivity.

How do EV batteries stay cool under pressure? 🔋❄️

At the recent ASTM International Committee Meeting in Toronto, Dale Hume presented new research on the thermal performance of fluids and solids in EV battery systems, a critical topic as EV adoption continues to grow worldwide.

✅ Using ASTM D7896 and Thermtest’s Transient Hot Wire method, we measured thermal conductivity, diffusivity, and heat capacity of dielectric fluids that help cool lithium-ion batteries directly and efficiently.

✅ We also tested solid materials like Aluminum 6061 using ASTM WK49591 / ISO 22007-2 and our Transient Plane Source method. These materials are essential for battery casings that must be lightweight, durable, and thermally conductive.

🔍 Key takeaway: Testing both fluids and solids provides a complete picture of EV thermal management systems.
