JESUS IS THE WATER
I had read the reading before the Mass, and was thinking about the waters that purify, which come out from the Temple. Plants grow from the riverbanks, fruits to feed us, and the leaves to provide medicine. The waters flow into our souls, making them clean. The fresh water turns the salty water into something that gives life to the fish, so the sea is no longer dead.
Before the beginning of Mass, I was filled with joy and had the image in my mind of singing with the Saints and Angels. That is what we do during the celebration of the Mass. We make music with them. I cannot sing very well, but the sound of singing is beautiful, because it is from God and is for God. Then the bell to begin the Mass was rung, and it was time to be present at the celebration, which has already begun in our hearts.
I prayed for Mom and Dad during the Mass, and hope that they are with the Saints and Angels in heaven, singing and worshipping God. The litany that was occurring in my mind and heart was praying for all of my relatives and for the priests that I have known, who have passed away. I pray a litany of the names, which with practice, I am able to recall in a certain order, so I do not forget anyone. I ask Mother Mary's intercession that the prayers will be gathered by her, and used to the best means possible, as only she can.
After receiving Jesus in the Eucharist, and returning to pray in the pew, I asked Jesus if He would play with me. He asked me if He could play with me. Then I imagined that Jesus was playing with my heart. He was bouncing it around playfully. At the same time He made my heart a bright red, which is what it should be, when He makes our hearts pure. It is the child Jesus who likes to play with us, if we will let Him. His love for us is overwhelming. It is so childlike and trusting. He asks us if we can have the same childlike love and trusting love, in Him. His waters, His love and graces, are flowing out from the Temple, in great torrents, so much that we would not be able to swim across. His waters are fresh and clean. They give life, they bring life, that turns what was uninhabitable into a beautiful river, with lush growth on either shore. His waters are very different from the waters that we drink on earth.
Jesus healed the cripple man at the pool. The Angel of the Lord would stir the waters and the first one to enter the pool was hopefully cured. But Jesus does not need this pool of water because He is the Water. He cures the man, tells him to pick up his mat and go and tell the priest, so his cure will be confirmed. He picks up this mat that he has been lying on for all those years. He must have hated this mat and being in this place, hoping against hope for a cure. But he listens to Jesus and picks up this hateful mat and brings it with him. His joy was great. I think later he would have grown to love this mat, the place of years of torture, because he and the mat have been cleansed by Jesus, and both are made whole.
Maybe he would have started playing with the mat, swinging it around, dancing on his strong legs, singing praises to Jesus. He would not have cared that Jesus had cured him on the Sabbath, and he would not have cared that the act of carrying the mat on this day was an act of work, forbidden on the Sabbath. Jesus is the Sabbath. He has received his health.
My prayer is that Jesus will enter all of us, into our darkness, because when He is present, the darkness is turned into light. We can imagine that we are singing with the Angels and the Saints. We can imagine that the child Jesus is here, wanting to be playful, and to play with you, you of all people! Me of all people! When we are left to our own selves, we know that we are without Jesus, Mother Mary, and the Saints and Angels. This is our darkness, but there can be moments when the Light shines in and what a great Light.
