PRICING - GIMLI VS WINNIPEG BEACH
Secrets revealed! Here's the answer to the question about why the price for a pump out is different depending on where you live!
RM of Gimli residents pay the same price all year long, while Winnipeg Beach residents pay different prices depending on what time of year they call in, why?
The RM of Gimli lagoon (where the waste from your tank is hauled to) is open all year round. As a result, the residents pay the same fee no matter what day they call on. The pricing reflects not only the cost of the employees wages, vehicle maintenance and fuel, but the cost of the tipping fee (what the town charges US to dump the waste into their facility) charged at a dollar amount equal to the amount we dump into their lagoon (this is also why larger tanks pay more than smaller ones, because WE are charged more to dump it there)
The Town of Winnipeg Beach, their lagoon is only open for 6 WEEKS a year. They open it for 3 weeks in the spring and 3 weeks in the fall to ensure that the healthy bacteria in the lagoon stays within optimal levels for breaking the waste down. Dumping solid waste all year long in their facility would negatively impact this bacteria.
Now, can you guess when the 'Reduced Rate' runs? You guessed it! During the same period of time that the lagoon is accepting solid waste!
The Reduced Rate is to encourage Winnipeg Beach residents to get their tank emptied during this period when it's safe to do so.
However, you can still choose to get your tank emptied any time of year you would like, BUT, if it is during a time that the Winnipeg Beach lagoon is closed, this means we have to call around to other towns and ask if they would be so kind as to allow us to offload your waste at their lagoon. Since they are NOT obligated to say yes, they can decline to allow us to use it (or their lagoon may also be closed for the season too), causing us to call other facilities further and further away. In addition to that, every facility charges NON-residents offload differently. For example, one facility closer by may only charge us $100 to dump, but are closed for the season, while another facility charges us $350 and are open year round but are very far away.
When you book an out of season pump out, you are paying not only the standard rate, but the additional fuel for travel and the very expensive lagoon fee, in addition, taking one of our trucks off the road for other customes up to 2.5 hrs (we can usually get 3-5 local customers done during this time frame)
