Sometimes it's not the size of a job that matters. Here we have a small gate from a local cemetery. As part of our outreach, we offered to complete the cleaning at no charge.

When we evaluated our options, the laser was the clear choice.

Here’s an experiment we started a last week. Using an old car trunk as a test sample, we stripped the paint down to bare metal and left it. If you were to do this same task with a sander, you'd likely see this sample start to rust within a day or so. This picture was taken 10 days out and still no flash over.

The reason? A process known as passivation.

The laser emits a high-intensity laser pulse onto the targeted area, causing the top few microns to remelt and restructure into a corrosion-resistant surface.
As a result, the oxide layer that is formed prevents corrosion from both occurring and creeping into the target area.

Grinders and blasters are notorious for the residue and debris they leave behind causing a risk of damage to nearby machinery and equipment. Reliability impact of dust and debris contacting moving equipment, shafts of pumps, compressors, blower or fans (rotating equipment) or shafts of actuated valves. Traditional wide scale blasting will see a reliability hit for months and years following blasting activities. Grinders when used incorrectly can cause severe injuries, including injuries from kick-back from the grinder, entanglement and contact with the grinding wheel. Also injuries from projectiles and in some cases can cause fires.

The laser system does not create any of these risks.

Here is a locking bar we recently prepared for new coatings.

Using our laser system, we are able to complete the majority of the cleaning without dismantling any of the equipment.

Because we are not using anything other than light energy to clean the materials, we do not risk damaging the substrate or nearby objects.

This was a tricky one for us.

Over the last few weeks we have been hard at work cleaning tar from a wooden hull. Attempts at scraping, sandblasting, pressure washing and steam cleaning all had varying levels of success, but none were as effective or user friendly as our new laser system.

Results are very impressive.

Here we have a machinery guard that was in need of new coatings. Rather than getting out our sandblasting equipment, we opted to use a laser.

Prep time is minimal, and cleanup only takes a couple minutes. No more shoveling or vacuuming sand for disposal.
