Project Spotlight: St. Peter's Church & Indwell Magnolia Apartments 🚧

O’Brien Fabrications is pleased to have completed the HVAC scope for the renovation of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Kitchener, which now includes the addition of 41 affordable housing units as part of Indwell’s Magnolia Apartments development.

Energy efficiency and occupant comfort were key design priorities for this project. A Mitsubishi VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system was installed in conjunction with RenewAire ERVs (Energy Recovery Ventilators) throughout the building. This system configuration is well-suited for mixed-use applications, providing independent zone control for both heating and cooling across residential units and shared church spaces, while maintaining efficient ventilation and heat recovery.

We would also like to recognize Nith Valley Construction for their strong leadership and seamless coordination throughout the project. Their direction and commitment to quality played a key role in delivering a successful outcome.

We are proud to have contributed to a project that supports sustainable building practices and helps expand access to affordable housing within the Kitchener community. 🏗️⛪🏙️

Last week our founder Mike O’Brien passed away unexpectedly. ‘OBEE’ was beloved by all of us, and was truly one of a kind. His personality, sense of humour and genuine care for others will truly be missed. Multiple past and current employees considered Obee a father figure, which is a testament to the type of person and mentor that he was. We will strive to carry on the legacy Obee left behind, and will keep on laughing at Obee’s many jokes and one liners. Rest in peace Mike, hope you’re on a golf course somewhere!

🚧 Project Spotlight: 301 Westmount

We’re proud to have been part of the transformation at 301 Westmount Road in Kitchener, where a brand-new four-story ecofriendly apartment building was completed in the summer of 2024! This 85-unit rental development features a mix of one and two bedroom layouts, offering modern and comfortable living spaces, as well as 13,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor. 🏗️✨

At O’Brien Fabrications, we installed the complete HVAC system which included high-efficiency VRF heat pumps and energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) in every suite, ensuring superior comfort, air quality, and energy efficiency for residents. The commercial space was equipped with furnaces and condensing units, ready for tenants to move in with reliable heating and cooling. 🔥🧊
