An exciting day celebrating the grand opening of the newly revitalized Lower Chute Creek near Naramata, BC—an incredible effort led by the Chute Creek Stewardship Society! https://www.chutecreek.org/

With early freshet, there was a lot of water ready to explore the new channel, and we had a lot of waves that day, too. Waters Edge was on site collecting baseline data to support ongoing assessment of the creek’s confluence with Okanagan Lake and the surrounding foreshore.

Our work is designed to understand and monitor how these constructed features interact with the lake over time, including factors like wave-induced sediment transport and long-term stability.

We’re proud to contribute to ensuring this impressive restoration is a resilient, sustainable addition to our lakefront.

Where creek meets lake, restoration comes to life 🌿💧

We’re proud to be part of the Lower Chute Creek Revitalization project near Naramata, BC—supporting pre-construction lakeshore engineering at the confluence of Lower Chute Creek and Okanagan Lake. Our work helps enhance fish access, improve flood management, and address foreshore sediment impacts, all while contributing to environmental remediation.

Honoured to be recognized as supporters on the Chute Creek Stewardship Society website—excited to help restore and protect this important ecosystem!

Yes! Trees have a profound influence on water management in our complex and beautiful natural system. More trees and less impermeable spaces will help in all water and climate aspects. Our City development practices are suffocating. Please don’t cut trees down or pave over the permeable surface that enables water transfer to the ground and beyond. Do we really need concrete and curbs and gutters all over? Making changes can help not only flooding but also drought and temperature and more. Could we change some policies for the greater good, please? 🌲 💦 🌲

Our nature-based solution appears to be a welcome hangout for the local wildlife! The angled boulders are designed to break the waves — and it seems they’ve also become a great duck seat.

Water levels are lower than normal on most lakes due to the drought this year, so we have started our fall sediment monitoring early, beginning with beautiful Adams Lake! Assessments are done at about the same water levels each year for comparable results. As is often the case when working with the environment, we cater our services to the dynamic demands of nature.

We have multiple sediment monitoring programs in place across several lake systems. Each is individually designed to measure and interpret sediment behaviour around a variety of human-caused changes in the system. It is a welcome opportunity to observe how the proposed change has worked out and if it matches our predicted results. This helps us grow!

Sadly, I didn’t see salmon in the creek this year. Maybe they are coming later.

This summer, our team has been hard at work on active construction projects, emergency restoration efforts, and ongoing sediment monitoring. We are a committed crew, driven by the goal of enhancing and protecting shorelines throughout the Interior of BC.

Summer Fieldwork Series Part 3: Construction and Emergency Restoration

In this installment, we're spotlighting two very different construction projects that reflect our ongoing commitment to protecting lakeside environments. By restoring and reinforcing these unique shorelines, we’re supporting local ecosystems and preserving these natural spaces for the future.

At Downie RV Park north of Revelstoke, BC, we showcase the culmination of years of comprehensive design and collaboration to meet provincial permitting requirements. We’re also sharing the work in progress from a smaller emergency repair at Kinsmen Park in Kelowna, where we addressed sinkholes that had developed behind a retaining wall.

Each project is a step toward more resilient, sustainable shoreline infrastructure.
