As part of our commitment to respectful and inclusive Indigenous engagement, SOAR is inviting community members to visit the proposed Salmon River Wind Farm Project site.
The Salmon River Wind Farm Project is a majority Wolastoqey-owned wind energy development located in New Brunswick. Wind energy is an increasingly more cost-competitive energy source that will create a stable revenue source for Wolastoqey communities for generations to come.
On November 12, 13 and 14, community members who are interested in contributing to the Environmental Impact Assessment that is currently underway for the Salmon River Project will have the opportunity to visit the project site. This opportunity is open to Wolastoqey Elders, land-users, knowledge holders, youth, and other community members.
The Wolastoqey worldview teaches that the land, water, and all living beings are deeply interconnected and must be approached with care and reciprocity. By engaging directly with community members, we aim to create opportunities to listen to stories, teachings, and lived experiences that deepen our understanding of place, insights that Western science alone cannot capture. Through this engagement opportunity, we aim to braid Wolastoqey Knowledge with Western science in ways that create space for meaningful opportunities to shape the regulatory process/project.
There are 6 spots each day (November, 12, 13, 14). Registration is required to attend. You can register online at wolastoqeyrdi.com or email [email protected]. Mileage and honorarium will be provided.
