Eight years in a row. And we have a few things to say about that. ☀️🏆
Watts Up Solar has won the 2027 Consumer Choice Award for Halifax, our 8th consecutive year receiving this recognition. 🙏
And 2026 has been our biggest year ever.
That's worth celebrating on its own. But given what's happening in the solar industry, we think there's a bigger story here.
We've watched solar companies come and go. We've seen bankruptcies, desperate sales tactics, increasingly creative financing schemes, and some genuinely astonishing attempts to separate Nova Scotians from their money.
And through all of it, we've continued to grow.
Not because we've figured out how to play the game better than everyone else. Because we refuse to play it at all.
We don't dress up expensive financing as "0% interest" when it was bought with a 24.99% dealer fee while pretending the true cost doesn't exist.
We don't invent rebates, manufacture urgency, or send a kid on an e-scooter door to door to sell someone a solar system at a 40% markup.
We don't install the cheapest equipment we can find and hope the homeowner never learns what they bought.
We don't pester people who don't even own a home for five-star reviews to manufacture a reputation we haven't earned.
And we don't employ commissioned salespeople.
Solar doesn't need fast-talking salesmen. People already want solar. They want to understand what they're buying, what it costs, and whether it's worth it. Introducing someone whose paycheque depends on closing the deal doesn't improve that equation.
Here's what we do instead.
We publish our prices on our website. Actual prices, available for anyone to see, before a salesperson ever gets involved. It's an extraordinarily simple concept that practically nobody in this industry is willing to adopt.
We employ our own installation crews. Our own electricians. The people selling, designing, installing, and supporting your system are all accountable to the same company.
We stand behind our equipment. We've now installed approximately 50,000 premium solar panels and microinverters across Nova Scotia, and we're still choosing the same one-to-one architecture we've trusted for years.
And this year, we've taken on more ambitious projects than ever before, including major commercial installations like the CAA building in Dartmouth. The same attention to engineering, equipment quality, and workmanship that goes into a residential rooftop now extends to some of the province's most recognizable commercial properties.
There is a reason we do things this way.
We're not interested in finding out how much money we can extract from an unsuspecting homeowner. We're interested in building solar systems that work, delivering on our promises, and being around to answer the phone when our customers need us.
Eight consecutive Consumer Choice Awards weren't drawn from a hat. They weren't a toss-up. And they weren't close.
They represent years of doing things differently in an industry that desperately needs more companies willing to do the same. To those that are, we see you. Hats off to you.
To our incredible in-house team, this recognition belongs to you. Every roof, every wire, every difficult installation, every early morning, and every customer who tells us how impressed they were with your work. You're the reason we can stand behind these words.
And to the thousands of Nova Scotians who have trusted us with their homes and businesses, thank you. You've made it possible for a company that refuses to follow the industry's playbook to have its biggest year yet.
Turns out you don't need to play games to win. ☀️
