There are numerous reasons why steel buildings are better than wood buildings. We firmly believe that for carports, garages, barns, and other steel buildings that we offer, steel is the perfect material to build these products. For our customers, steel has come to be the preferred building material which has led to it’s widespread popularity across the entire nation. When you consider price, durability, reduced construction time, and the environmentally friendliness of steel, it is the best choice.
A Steel Building is Stronger than a Wood Building
Steel has the greatest strength-to-weight ratio compared to any building material curently used today. This means that the frame of steel buildings can support more weight than the same amount of wood and steel spans can be greater because of steel’s inherent strength.
Steel Buildings are More Durable than Wood Buildings
With the steel framing on our steel buildings, there’s no worries when it comes to termites or decay from rot. Last year, more than 2 million wood frame structures were treated for termites and an estimated $750 million in termite damage was done. Steel frames are also more durable because they do no warp, twist, or split as wood framing can.
Steel is More Economical than Wood
Because the construction on steel buildings requires less labor as compared to a wood-frame building, the labor savings for steel is generally one-third less than wood construction. Steel framing and steel exterior sheeting allow for quick construction. Most of our buildings are built, start-to-finish, in less than one day so steel construction is fast, clean, and relatively quiet.
Steel is Fire Resistant
Unlike wood, steel is non-combustible and it does not contribute to the spread of fire from other sources.
Steel is Environmentally Friendly
Steel is green! It is a recyclable material and a recent study indicated that less than 1% of structural steel ends up in landfills. The rest of it can be recycled indefinitely with no losses to properties or performance. According to recycled-steel.org, steel is North American’s #1 most recycled material, more than plastic, plastic, paper, and aluminum combined.
