Auckland. After 3400km on South and North Islands we’re in Auckland til Tuesday morning. We went up the needle` a worthy excursion. Auckland has a great harbour. A couple of long walks along the waterfront. A LOT of boats. Many big boat$. A row of vintage woodies too. NZ has a heritage of boat design and construction, from woodies to carbon fibre- fearless, it seems. Also, a very pleasing blend of architecture. The waterfront, like many industrialized waterfronts has been, and is being revitalized. There are still some grubby areas, but it is still a working waterfront- for plea$urecraft. Lots of good room for pedestrians, restaurants, services, even swimming. My walk today took me thru’ some of the old portlands, and along a great boardwalk all the way to RNZYS, current holders of the America’s Cup. Guess which pic is is “of” the America’s Cup. It’s Sunday, lots of kids at RNSYS heading out for some sailing- happily, a nice breeze has filled in. Tomorrow, the New Zealand Maritime Museum and a short harbour cruise on a vintage motor yacht- of very modest proportion.
