TwoSmiths Two Smiths designs and builds architectural details and site specific sculpture in wrought iron, steel, copper, bronze, aluminum and stainless steel.

Through years of close observation and perseverance we’ve developed the technical experience and insights that enable us to offer work of the highest caliber. Projects encompass a wide variety of metalworking processes from finely machined parts to careful expression of the hand made. Our willingness to take on unique challenges is driven by a passion for problem solving and the desire to develop designs that respond to the potential of the material. Much of the work we do is collaborative. We work with contractors and builders to design architectural projects that are sympathetic to the site. We restore historic copper, bronze and ironwork. With architects and manufacturers we develop technical processes and systems for projects that require extremely high attention to material qualities, finish and detail. We work closely with engineers to come up with structural solutions that are aesthetically pleasing. We collaborate with artists to design, fabricate and install large scale public art. In our studio workshops we teach how to work the raw material by hand.

Bill took some creative chances and used a kiwi vine with integral branches as a handle for his hidden tang knife.

Here he is using the red hot tang of his forged knofe to burn a perfectly shaped opening in the wood handle.

These One Day classes focus on designing and making tools by hand for serving, cooking, eating and drinking.

Starting with raw materials (steel, copper and brass) and using fire to make the material soft we'll show you how to create functional objects that you will design, draw and then shape with a hammer.

These workshops are designed for beginners.

If you've been camping and splitting wood or perfecting your axe throwing skills this is a class you should consider taking.

Aimie Botelho developed this three day course for an axe design based on the Gransfors Small Forest Axe.

What's unique about this class is everyone starts from scratch with a billet of higher carbon steel to slit and drift the hole for the handle. Most other axe making classes pre-punch the hole which makes it easier but less satisfying (we think). Our interest is teaching hands on skills working with raw material.

The axe you will forge is designed to comply with World Axe Throwing League Standards.

Damascus Full Tang Knife - Bladesmithing Level 2

Take your knife making skills to the next level.
Forge weld 1084 and 15n20 into a billet and manipulate the layers of steel into a more complex pattern.
Then forge your pattern welded billet into a knife that you design- both blade and handle.

We'll run you through the process of heat treating, fitting scales, pins and finishing. the handle.

This is a four day workshop that runs over the course of two weekends.

I was visiting to take site measurements for a railing up on the Bruce Peninsula near Tobermory, Ontario. Had dinner and a fire with the client and was reminded that we forged this fire grate several years ago.

I often say that I couldn't care less what happens to pieces I forge - they could end up at the bottom of the ocean - it's the process of making that interests me. But seeing this little piece was like visiting an old friend.
