☃ The cold weather is rolling in so of course snow is on our minds.🥶 If you want to explore the fascinating science and art of snowflakes with your students, you might be interested in our resource for : Let it Snow! ❄

Let it Snow!❄ is a course that combines science, math, and art to help students learn how snowflakes are generated and why they are unique.
💠 Students will use geometric principles to dimension and measure irregular shapes or difficult lines. Then, they will translate an abstract design into a printed object that is unique and aesthetically pleasing.
Let it Snow!❄ is designed for students in grades 4 to 8, but it can be adapted for other levels as well.
The course includes instructor resources such as:
⛓ Connections: how the course aligns with the Ontario curriculum expectations and standards for science, math, and art.
📐 How to Apply the Process: a guide on how to use the design thinking process to help students plan, create, test, and improve their snowflakes.
🌎 Global Competencies: how the course develops students’ skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and citizenship.
✏ Teachable Moments: tips and suggestions on how to enhance the and address common questions and challenges.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
⚖ Leverage basic skills to create a unique 3D printed snowflake
📊 Conduct research successfully in pairs to create a written report and diagram of the water cycle
🌀 Discuss the water cycle and the factors that influence the cycle on Earth, including human behavior
📝 Successfully draw and dimension in 2D to create blueprints for designs
🌡 Articulate how snowflake designs are affected by environmental forces in the atmosphere such as humidity and temperature
🌏 Describe how the water cycle might affect people in different countries in different ways (e.g., flooding, drought).
