A little different from our usual jobsite. This one took us aboard a vessel in North Vancouver. ⛴️

The scope included selective removal of asbestos-containing textured paint and mastic from designated areas, with containment set up around the work zone.

Buildings, mechanical rooms, vessels… ACM can turn up in plenty of places.

Not every lead paint project calls for stripping everything back to bare steel.

On this Richmond, BC project, our team removed the areas of loose and flaking lead-containing paint, then encapsulated the coating that remained.

It’s a practical approach when the existing material can remain in place, while making sure deteriorated lead paint is properly first.

Mould and moisture damage can hide surprisingly well.

These photos are from a project in Chilliwack, BC. From the outside, there wasn’t much to suggest what was actually happening inside the wall.

Once it was opened up, it was a different story. Mould growth, wood rot and significant moisture-related deterioration had been hiding behind the finished surface.

It’s a good reminder that after a leak, flood or ongoing moisture issue, what you can see may only be part of the story.

Construction and maintenance don’t always stop just because a healthcare space is active.

Infection control hoardings help contain dust and other construction-related contaminants, reducing their movement into surrounding areas while work is underway.

Along with the appropriate environmental controls, they play an important role in supporting infection prevention while allowing necessary work to move forward within active healthcare facilities.

Asbestos waste can’t just be loaded up and taken to the nearest dump.

Once asbestos-containing materials are removed, there are requirements around how it’s packaged, labelled, contained, transported and ultimately disposed of in BC.

Not every contractor or vehicle can transport hazardous waste. The appropriate requirements need to be met to move asbestos waste from a jobsite to an authorized disposal facility that accepts ACM waste.

Before it gets there, waste is properly packaged and labelled, then secured for transport. On larger projects, that can mean a lined, covered and labelled bin like the one pictured here.

ProActive is licensed to transport hazardous waste, allowing us to manage the process from removal through transportation and final disposal.

Removing asbestos is only part of the job. Making sure it gets where it needs to go safely is part of it too.

The forbidden kitty litter strikes again. 😅

Okay, technically asbestos-containing vermiculite.

Our crew removed and disposed of approximately 750 sq. ft. of ACM vermiculite from the attic of a Langley home.

Summer temperatures add another consideration when working in attic spaces, particularly while wearing the PPE and respiratory protection required for asbestos abatement. Our crews are experienced and prepared for these conditions, with temperature monitoring and appropriate controls in place to manage heat exposure throughout the work.

Another one safely handled by the ProActive team.

Asbestos-containing materials aren’t always found inside a building.

This Vancouver project involved the removal of approximately 36 sq. ft. of ACM roofing membrane and insulation from a localized section of the roof.

Another reminder that when repairs, maintenance or upgrades involve older building materials, asbestos can sometimes be part of the scope.

Supporting our communities goes beyond the work we do on the jobsite.

This year, we were proud to be a One-Hole Sponsor at the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation Westwood Honda Charity Golf Classic. Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the event raised $147,491 to support exceptional patient care and community health programs close to home. More than 350 golfers, 24 sponsors, and over 50 donated auction items helped make it all possible.

Thank you to the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and every participant who contributed to such a meaningful day. We’re grateful to have been part of it.
