🌱 Tip‑Tuesday from Rouge Landscape + Renovations – Lower Mainland Edition! 🌱
Summer is shining here in the Lower Mainland—from Richmond to Burnaby to Chilliwack! Let us help your lawn thrive in our unique West Coast climate. Here are 5 expert tips to keep your turf healthy, green, and ready for outdoor living:
1. Mow High & Mow Smart
Keep grass around 8–11 cm (3–4½") tall—this shaded canopy protects soil and roots from intense sun. Never remove more than one-third of the blade at once, and always use sharp blades for cleaner cuts.
2. Water Deeply, Not Daily
Provide about 2.5 cm (1") of water per week, in one or two deep early‑morning sessions. This promotes strong, deep roots and prevents shallow watering pitfalls. Avoid mid‑day to conserve water and fend off moisture-loving fungi.
3. Grasscycle – Leave the Clippings
Skip bagging your grass clippings! Mulching returns precious nitrogen and moisture to the soil, reducing the need for extra fertilizer.
4. Aerate & Overseed (Spring/Fall)
Break up compacted Lower Mainland soils—especially with heavy clay—by aerating in spring or fall. Then overseed with cool‑season grass varieties like fescues or ryegrass to boost density and resilience.
5. Adjust Soil pH & Feed Smart
Our slightly acidic soils often need a lime boost to help grass thrive. Pair with a balanced, slow‑release summer fertilizer rich in potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, and nitrogen. Apply in June to support summer growth.
🌿 Extra Lower Mainland Insight:
Brown grass during dry spells? It’s often just dormant—not dead! With the right watering and care, it’ll bounce back once cooler, wetter weather resumes.
