Numerous independent studies have proven that real-time energy feedback is effective in driving the type of energy conservation behavior that results in reduced power consumption up to 20%. Due to limitations of almost all existing "smart meter" based solutions, they are incapable of "real-time" data. That is, information updates of less that 1 or 2 seconds: what is considered real-time by human perception. NetMeter systems update every second so that the users can see immediate changes in their power consumption, such as turning on or off an electrical load (equipment, appliances, lighting, etc.).
