Fire Danger Rating Raised to EXTREME

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has raised the fire danger rating to EXTREME in our area. Multiple fire bans are currently in effect, including within the Townships of Black River-Matheson, Kirkland Lake, Timmins, and on Apitipi Anicinapek Nation territory.

Everyone is reminded to exercise extreme caution and be aware of their surroundings. Please help reduce the risk of wildfire by:

Following all fire bans and restrictions currently in place.
Ensuring ci******es are completely extinguished before disposal.
Never throwing cigarette butts from a vehicle window or into grassy, wooded, or other combustible areas.
Avoiding activities that may create sparks or open flames.
Reporting any suspicious activity, unattended fires, or individuals violating fire restrictions.

Wildfires can spread rapidly under current conditions, putting people, property, wildlife, and communities at risk. Your cooperation is essential in helping prevent human-caused fires.

A friendly reminder:
Due to current dry weather conditions and increased wildfire risk, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has raised the Fire Hazard Rating to High. A High Fire Hazard Rating indicates that forest fuels are very dry, and fires can start easily, spread quickly, and be more difficult to control. Extreme caution must be exercised with any outdoor burning activities, and unnecessary open-air burning is strongly discouraged.
Everyone is encouraged to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to help prevent wildfires and protect our communities and natural resources.
Smokers are reminded to ensure ci******es are fully extinguished before disposal and should never throw cigarette butts from vehicles, as they can easily ignite dry grass and vegetation, leading to potentially devastating wildfires.
