This was a very satisfying project! It saw the removal of a legacy indoor wood boiler and the installation of a high efficiency Froling S3 firewood boiler.

The Froling S3 is a downdraft gasification boiler with lambda control and buffer tank management. Big difference from an open, firebox style boiler with no combustion control. It's a bit more complex, but the same price or lower. We're here with support for our customers, with clear explanations and designs to reduce the complexity to something any home owner can manage and enjoy.

We're often asked about the lifespan of our boiler systems. This young buck is getting close to 20 years of service, with many more to come.

The design of the Froling FHG (aka S3) minimizes temperature gradients from flue-gas to water jacket across all welds. Geek speak for - we don't have really hot zones creating stress on welds. Second, the boiler is a closed, pressurized system. This does not allow oxygen to enter the boiler fluid and cause corrosion; as happens in all open systems.
