Would you work two weeks straight in a northern Ontario gold mine for nearly $60 an hour?
Alamos Gold is advertising a haul truck operator position at its Island Gold Mine, near Dubreuilville, with hourly wages ranging from C$34.98 to C$59.53.
And unlike some of those extraordinary mining salaries advertised across Canada, this position doesn't require a university degree or decades of management experience.
The company is looking for operators with three to five years of heavy equipment experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid driver's licence.
Successful applicants will haul ore and waste material, complete equipment inspections and maintain safe operating conditions throughout their shifts.
The proposed roster is particularly interesting.
Operators can work seven days on, seven days off, or 14 days on, 14 days off, with 12-hour shifts.
Camp accommodation and a travel allowance are available when needed.
At the maximum advertised hourly rate, seven consecutive 12-hour shifts would represent approximately C$5,000 in gross earnings, before accounting for overtime rules or other adjustments.
Of course, reaching the top of the pay range depends on qualifications, experience and the company's compensation policies.
Island Gold is one of Canada's significant high-grade underground gold operations, with expansion work supporting its long-term development.
The job also comes with the realities of remote mining: extended shifts, demanding working conditions and substantial time away from home.
Still, for experienced equipment operators looking for a change, the offer deserves attention.
