Estimate structural details without invasive methods.

In this case study, GPR was used to support the assessment of stone wall thickness in a bridge structure—providing subsurface information that helped inform a redesign evaluation for a historic bridge.

By offering insights into internal conditions, pulseEKKO® GPR data helped more effectively guide decision‑making while supporting asset preservation considerations.

📌 Accurate positioning is crucial for GPR surveys to effectively locate subsurface objects and map buried assets. Discover the features of our GPR-SG, a new GNSS positioning system for LMX, Noggin and pulseEKKO ground penetrating radar (GPR) systems.

- Select an accuracy level ranging from 30 cm RMS to 1 cm RMS (using RTK correction service).

- Our GNSS solution is plug-and-play, with connectivity, setup, and battery management all taken care of at the system level.

- The SplitView feature on LMXs allows for simultaneous viewing of utilities in both map and cross-section views.

How do “easy” targets remain undetected? Sometimes, it takes a different approach to see what’s already there.
At West Point Military Academy, student researchers applied new GPR survey strategies to investigate long‑buried cannons - revealing how targets can remain hidden in plain sight.
This case study highlights how GPR can more effectively support subsurface investigation when paired with thoughtful survey design and interpretation.

Use GPR data to determine the diameter of the pipe.

To estimate the diameter of a buried non-metallic pipe using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) data, you need to check for reflections from the top and bottom of the pipe and know the contents of the pipe. Once these conditions are met, you can calculate the estimated diameter. Keep in mind that this method provides only an estimate and ground truthing may be necessary for an exact measurement.

Did you know that the NIC-500X allows any combination up to 8 pulseEKKO transmitters (Tx) and receivers (Rx) to be networked together, and any Tx can fire to one or more Rx's simultaneously?

One way to deploy a NIC-500X is for transillumination to measure the GPR velocity and attenuation properties inside structures to reveal anomalous areas. With a NIC-500X firing 1 Tx to multiple Rx's simultaneously, transillumination data collection is more efficient and has higher productivity compared to a single Tx-Rx pair.

Remember that since GPR systems offer antenna frequencies of 12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200, 250, 500 and 1000 MHz, transillumination can be done at many different physical scales - high frequency antennas for detailed imaging inside small structures such archaeological features and low frequency antennas for large structures such as dams.
