📣 The Aifred Health team is very excited to close out a great 2025 by welcoming Louisa Petropoulos as its new CEO!

During the past 12 months, Aifred has seen tremendous success in achieving major milestones, including:
🌟 Publication of the results of our North American approval trial.
🌟 Publication of the validation study for our AI model in treatment response prediction.
🌟 Achieving our second US patent.
🌟 Successful completion of regulatory paths in both the US and Canada.

With these milestones under its belt, Aifred is ready and eager for the next phase of its journey! We are delighted to now welcome Louisa Petropoulos in the role of CEO, ready to take Aifred forward to even greater success in this new chapter.

Louisa brings a wealth of expertise to the Aifred team with experience across venture capital, biotech, clinical operations, and business development in Canada and the US. Most recently, she served as President & CEO of the cell therapy CDMO C3i Center Inc whereby under her leadership, C3i was transitioned from an academic institution to an internationally competitive CDMO becoming the first and only CDMO in Canada to obtain Drug Establishment License (DEL) for the commercial manufacturing of cell therapies as well as EMA approval for manufacturing for the EU and attracting international biotech clients.

Louisa’s strong scientific background is ideally matched to the extensive scientific foundations to our work that position Aifred as a responsible, safe and effective decision support tool for clinicians and patients alike.

The Aifred Health team is very excited to share that we’ve been awarded our second U.S. patent!

This is another important milestone for the team and a testament to the deep innovation behind our platform. Patenting AI in healthcare is never straightforward—navigating novelty, explainability, and regulatory considerations, all at the same time, makes the bar especially high.

We are grateful for the hard work of everyone who helped make it happen!

📣 FDA review allows Aifred Health to bring its AI-powered clinical decision support platform for Major Depression to market in the US:

Back in 2019, when we first approached the FDA to ask whether the AI-based clinical decision platform for mental health treatment selection our team was building could or should be regulated, there was no clear answer. The field was still new, the frameworks were evolving, and the path ahead was anything but certain.

Rather than wait for clarity, we helped build it:

Over the years, we engaged with the FDA again and again -
🧩 sharing how we built our model
🧪 aligning on the most rigorous validation and testing methods
🧭 getting critical input into the design of our pivotal North American clinical trial
When that trial was completed, the results became part of a substantial submission package detailing our technology, our science, and our clinical evidence.

Today, we’re glad to share a milestone that’s been years in the making:
👉 The FDA has reviewed and endorsed our strategy and our Instructions for Use — formally confirming that our technology is classified as a non-regulated clinical decision support tool.

This confirmation clears the way for Aifred Health to bring its platform to market, helping clinicians select the right treatments for their patients and, most importantly, to support the millions of people living with the burden of major depression.

Following Health Canada approval last year, this marks another significant step as we continue to advance a broader vision of safe, effective, and responsible AI in mental health.

L'équipe d'Aifred Health est ravie de partager la publication des résultats de notre essai clinique nord-américain qui démontrent l'efficacité de notre nouvelle plateforme basée sur l'IA dans le traitement de la dépression majeure :
* L'utilisation de la plateforme améliore considérablement le taux de rémission
* L'utilisation de la plateforme accélère considérablement la vitesse d'amélioration des symptômes.

The Aifred Health team is thrilled to share the publication of the results of our North American clinical trial which demonstrate the effectiveness of our novel AI-driven platform in major depression:

* Use of the platform significantly improves rate of remission.
* Use of the platform significantly accelerates speed of improvement in symptoms.
* Use of the platform did not impact treatment adherence.
* The platform generates strong patient and clinician engagement.

Sites were located across the United States and Canada, and included U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs sites as well as mood disorders programs in university-affiliated psychiatric departments at the University of Michigan, University of Toronto and McGill University. We extend our sincere thanks to all the internal and external team members and collaborators behind the success of this trial.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible belief and support of our investors, partners, and broader ecosystem — as well as the objective and rigorous feedback and guidance from our Scientific Advisory Board. Backing such a novel AI approach was a leap of faith, and it’s thanks to that shared conviction that we’ve been able to turn an ambitious vision into a validated reality.

The Aifred team is very excited to unveil our latest paper in NPJ Mental Health Research, showcasing the rigorous development and validation of our AI model for personalized treatment response prediction in major depression.

This model offers predictions for 10 first-line treatments and combinations, the largest number of treatments supported by any one model to date. Drawing on data from over 9,000 clinical trial participants, the model was designed with flexibility and clinical utility at the forefront.

Through conducting 100 independent simulations of the model, we observed a statistically significant improvement of remission rates by 27.5% from baseline.

It’s the same model that powered our groundbreaking AID-ME randomized control trial, with results to be published later this year.

Quel parcours ! D'une start-up montréalaise à un gagnant du XPRIZE AI for Good, jusqu'à l'approbation de Santé Canada ! La mission d'Aifred est de résoudre le dilemme du choix de traitement pour de multiples indications de maladies humaines, à commencer par la dépression où il n'existait auparavant aucune méthode fondée sur des preuves pour choisir entre près d'une douzaine de médicaments approuvés pour personnaliser le choix de traitement afin d'améliorer les résultats des patients !

What a journey! From a Montreal start-up, to an XPRIZE AI for Good Winner, to Health Canada Approval! Aifred's mission is to solve the treatment choice dilemma for multiple human disease indications, beginning with depression where previously there were no evidence-based methods to choose between almost a dozen approved medications to personalize treatment choice to improve patients outcomes!

L'équipe d'Aifred est ravie d'annoncer la conclusion de son essai clinique nord-américain et le lancement des dépôts réglementaires aux États-Unis et au Canada pour notre plateforme d'aide à la décision clinique basée sur l'IA afin de personnaliser et d'optimiser le choix du traitement dans le cas de la dépression majeure.

Nous avons eu la chance de mener cet essai, le premier du genre au monde pour un outil d'aide à la décision clinique basé sur l'IA dans le domaine de la santé mentale, en collaboration avec le Département des anciens combattants des États-Unis (VA) et des centres d'excellence de premier plan à travers l'Amérique du Nord.

Bien que les résultats définitifs soient encore en attente du traitement complet des données, l'analyse préliminaire de l'échantillon d'analyse complet suggère que la plateforme a été encore plus performante que nous l'avions espéré ! Nous sommes impatients de commencer à travailler sur nos dossiers réglementaires, une étape cruciale pour mettre notre technologie à la disposition des cliniciens et des patients aux États-Unis et au Canada.
