An IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) is a power semiconductor device commonly used in high-voltage and high-current applications. It combines the advantages of both MOSFETs and BJTs, making it ideal for efficient power control.
Features of IGBT :
- High input impedance (like MOSFET)
- Low on-state voltage drop (like BJT)
- Efficient switching of large amounts of power
- Voltage-controlled device

A thyristor is a four–layer (p–n–p–n) semiconductor device essentially a gate‐controlled diode with three terminals: Anode (A) ,Cathode (K)and Gate (G). When a small current is injected into the gate, the device “latches” on, conducting from anode to cathode until the main current falls below a holding level. In effect, it behaves as a controllable switch.

Some of the common Applications of the Thyristor :
AC Power Control : Light dimmers, heating elements, phase-angle control of AC loads.
Motor Drives : Variable-speed drives (VSDs) for DC and AC motors.
Controlled Rectifiers : Converting AC to controlled DC (e.g. battery chargers).
HVDC Transmission : Converters/inverters in high-voltage DC power lines.
Solid-State Relays : Electrically isolated switching of large loads.
Crowbar Protection : Fast-acting overvoltage protection in power supplies.
Induction Heating : High-frequency power control for heating metal.

MOSFET stands for Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor. It is a type of transistor used to amplify or switch electronic signals.
When a voltage is applied to the Gate, it controls the flow of current from Drain to Source, acting like a switch or variable resistor.

Some Applications of MOSFETs.

- Power switching Used in power supplies, DC-DC converters, battery management.
- Drives DC motors and stepper motors (e.g., in drones, 3D printers).
- Acts as an amplifier for audio signals.
- Billions of tiny MOSFETs form logic gates in microprocessors.
- Used in PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to control LED brightness.
- Manages power conversion in renewable energy systems.
- Controls loads like pumps, lights, and actuators.
