Earlier this spring, we went to the Canton Fair in China. The main purpose was to source better materials for our buildings. We had a designer design a specific door to withstand our climate which we feel is an issue with our cold winters. While we were there we explored other possibilities as well. This coming summer, there will be products coming that will be available in our buildings as well as retail sales.

So, we did a thing. We found a company that makes AWD golf carts as well as 2WD. The quality is unparalleled and we went to the factory to inspect workmanship as well. Went 4 wheeling down at the river in a 6 seater and our host tormented this thing. After they took us for lunch and the message was "We might not do business, but you will find us hospitable" The chicken soup was not like Mom used to make. Mine had a foot in it and Brett's had the head. We signed an agreement with this company and the Carts are currently in production. We will assemble these in Canada, creating local employment and be offering retail sales as well as fundraising opportunities. We have warranty capabilites as well as staff (not Brett, lol) that can maintain and service them.

In closing, we toured numerous factories and met some wonderful people. I find in retrospect that in this world we are basically all the same, we laugh the same, we feel sad the same. We can enjoy other cultures and they can enjoy us. We have to do better and leave the tribalism out of it.

We haven't posted lately about our Agritough Matting, but I felt I needed to share a video of the matting at work as aprons in front of our cold storage. This video is after 2 inches of rain and the matting is holding up spectacularly. Agritough Matting and crusher dust seems to be the option that can work for cold storage floors..

We are breaking ground on the following project which if not the biggest single slope mono truss in Saskatchewan, it will be one of the biggest. 120x120x20 with attached 120x30 offices. It has taken awhile to get the engineering in place, but we are set to go. Another interesting feature is the concrete firewall between the 2 structures. This will be a fun and challenging project with different trades we are responsible for as Bakke Buildings as the Genereal Contractor

We haven't posted for awhile as we have been busy with the season ramping up. There are a lot of innovative things happening this year with some of our buildings as well as undertaking some new endeavors. It will be an interesting summer. This spring, Bakke Buildings took it upon ourselves to try to make it as safe as possible for our employees and subcontractors and as a result have been hosting a number of sessions related to safety. The latest one is First Aid training. We believe it is money well invested.

SAFETY, the dirty 6 letter word in the Post Frame Industry.
Construction has similar time constraints that most agricultural producers experience. Starting at this time of year, everything that is done is preparing for winter, Same with Bakke Buildings, subcontractors that build our buildings and trades that are part of the build. There tends to be a lot of pressure to get the project completed and move on to the next build, and as a result, safety protocols get pushed aside.
Bakke Buildings believes that safety should be paramount in the operation and we are currently hosting Fall protection seminars in our boardroom. Currently, the second one is in progress and another slated. We are also putting together St. john's first aid training as well as Aerial platform training as well as equipment certification.
We know that there are no guarantees that safety protocols are carried out in the field, but we believe the culture to treat safety as a priority starts here.
Bakke Buildings will continue to host safety seminars to our crews and staff, and to whoever wishes to access this opportunity
As a side note, Bakke Buildings has committed to obtaining CORE certification and is working with the Saskatchewan Safety Council to have it implemented.
