Kraken Robotics’ subsea LiDAR provides operators with an accurate and repeatable way to monitor the long-term movement of critical subsea infrastructure.

Flowlines and jumpers can gradually move over time due to thermal expansion, seabed interaction, and operational loading. Monitoring that movement helps engineers understand asset behaviour, assess long-term trends, and support informed asset integrity decisions.

The video below overlays high-resolution subsea LiDAR datasets acquired in 2016, 2019, and 2024 at approximately 1,500 metres water depth, revealing measurable infrastructure movement over time. The repeat surveys are conducted without any physical contact to the structures/jumpers and provide engineering-grade 3D data in half the time compared to other methods.

Kraken Robotics' Synthetic Aperture Sonar (Kraken SAS) captured these images of concrete mattresses protecting a subsea cable.

While the mattresses are clearly identifiable in the overview, the level of detail becomes apparent when zooming in. Individual concrete blocks measuring just 20 × 20 cm remain clearly resolved at approximately 55 m range, demonstrating the consistent, high-resolution performance of synthetic aperture sonar.

SAS imagery enables survey teams to move beyond simply locating infrastructure to understanding its condition, providing greater confidence when assessing critical underwater infrastructure.
