Water heater options:
One of the most important and expensive pieces of equipment in your home is your water heater! Water heaters can account for up to 30% of your home's energy consumption, making this a very important piece of equipment that shouldn't be neglected. We recommend that you replace your water heater every 8-10 years, this time frame can vary based on use and the level to which it was maintained. If you are in need of a new water heater you have several options. The most popular is the storage-tank water heater. This can range from 30 gallons to over 100-gallon capacity and can operate directly or indirectly. The larger tanks will accommodate more people in your home and more appliances. The other tank option is indirect tank. An indirect storage tank is heated through the boiler, this requires your boiler to get up to temperature to heat the water properly.
Direct water heaters are traditionally the most energy-efficient. They are more energy-efficient than an indirect water heater because it heats the water itself. Indirect water heaters rely on the furnace or boiler to supply the heat needed for the water. However, the life of an indirect water heater is as twice of a direct tank.
The most energy efficient water heaters is On-demand water heaters heat your water on the spot. These are usually referred to as tankless water heaters as there is no need for the water to store. While these water heaters heat water only when called upon, they do not perform as well if more than one person or appliance is calling for hot water.
