With nearly 20 years of project development, planning and permitting experience, Bea Ashby brings deep expertise and a highly collaborative approach to her work at Atura Power. Holding a master’s degree in environmental studies from York University, Bea is also a Registered Professional Planner and member of the Canadian Institute of Planners.

As project manager, environmental and municipal approvals with Atura Power for more than two years, Bea manages external vendors, performs planning and permitting activities and advises the business development team.

A key focus of Bea’s work is early planning and permitting to optimize project layouts. She is especially passionate about collaboration and believes bringing the right people together early reduces risk, improves decision-making and turns opportunities into successful projects.

When it comes to what Bea appreciates most about working at Atura Power, it’s the integrity and commitment the team offers, particularly as the company explores new technologies and engages with communities during project development.

Outside of work, Bea enjoys mentoring co-op students and young planners, as well as photography and painting. She is a fan of the outdoors and volunteers with her community food bank in Oakville.

The team at Atura Power’s Brighton Beach Generating Station (BBGS) is truly committed to making a difference in the City of Windsor, the host of our 607-megawatt electricity generation station.

Recently, employees from BBGS delivered a donation to the ALS Society of Windsor–Essex County to help the volunteer-run charity continue supporting people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) – commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease” – and contributing to research that leads to a cure.

The ALS Society of Windsor–Essex County plays a vital role in enhancing quality of life for those living with ALS through compassionate support services and advocacy. This includes an extensive equipment loan program providing access to essential mobility and medical equipment at no cost. From wheelchairs and walkers to communication devices and home accessibility aids, the equipment helps individuals with ALS maintain their dignity, independence and comfort.

Atura Power shares Toronto Community Housing Corp.’s (TCHC) belief that education and training help empower today’s youth to become tomorrow’s community leaders.

That’s why we’re proud to partner with the TCHC to sponsor the Atura Power Skilled Trades Scholarship as part of the Investing in our Diversity Scholarships (IIODS) program. These scholarships are awarded each year to students based on academic excellence, financial eligibility and community involvement.

TCHC has awarded these scholarships for 20 years so that its young tenants can achieve their full potential in a post-secondary school or training program.

Good luck to Mariam Rfifi, recipient of the Atura Power Skilled Trades Scholarship in 2026, who will study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto!

Atura Power’s Brighton Beach Generating Station (BBGS) was pleased to donate to the Canadian Aviation Museum recently. This donation request was brought forward by Colin Rieveley, a shift engineer at the station, who is passionate about aviation.

John Robinson and Gwen Reynolds graciously welcomed BBGS representatives and provided a tour of their impressive facility, showing the museum’s extensive aircraft restoration operations and the remarkable work done to preserve Canada's aviation history.

Atura Power is proud to support organizations such as the Canadian Aviation Museum that preserve and celebrate our community’s rich history while providing educational opportunities for future generations.

Atura Power’s Napanee Generating Station recently contributed to the community in a different way. As part of Ontario’s Adopt a Highway program, the generating station team cleaned up a portion of Loyalist Parkway/Highway 33.

In 2021, NGS adopted about a kilometre of Highway 33 – from Napanee BESS to the east end of the Lennox Generating Station – in the Town of Greater Napanee, Ont. And, once a year, the team heads out to pick up litter along this section.

Ontario’s Adopt-a-Highway program allows you to adopt a section of a provincial highway to help keep our roads clean. It also offers valuable team building opportunities while supporting the local community. Learn more about the program and how to participate here: https://lnkd.in/e7A4JdD3.

Atura Power is thrilled to sponsor the University of Toronto Formula Racing (UTFR) team, supporting students as they design, build and race electric formula-style cars. Founded in 1997, the club brings together more than 50 students from across dynamic disciplines, with each contributing an average of 30-plus hours per week alongside their academics.

In 2025, UTFR became the first North American team to complete a driverless run at Formula Student Germany, advancing to the design finals and placing 15th against more than 100 teams in their first year competing in the autonomous category.

Atura Power is proud to support UTFR this season, helping students gain hands-on experience, apply technical skills and prepare for future engineering challenges. You can learn more about the team and how to support them here: https://fsaeutoronto.ca/.

"We are investing in modern technologies that strengthen system reliability and enable the integration of more intermittent non‑emitting generation while maintaining the dependable electricity supply Ontarians rely on every day,” said Tom Patterson, Atura Power’s President and CEO, while announcing the start of commercial operations of the Napanee Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Napanee BESS is a 250-megawatt electricity infrastructure project created through a joint venture between Atura Power and AmerescoCanada. Located in the Town of Greater Napanee, Ont., it is one of the largest battery storage sites operating in Canada and can store and deliver enough electricity to power approximately 250,000 homes for up to four hours during times of high demand.

Napanee BESS was selected through the IESO’s Expedited Long‑Term procurement process and supports the province’s long‑term plan to ensure reliable, affordable, and clean electricity for Ontario.

Atura Power was honoured to recently welcome Effie Triantafilopoulos, MPP Oakville North–Burlington, and Joseph Racinsky, MPP Wellington–Halton Hills, to our Halton Hills Generating Station in the Town of Halton Hills, Ont.

The MPPs joined plant manager Don Tiffney and others from Atura Power for a brief presentation and discussion about our company, fleet and operations, and a tour of the station.

We appreciate MPP Triantafilopoulos and MPP Racinsky’s visit and interest about Atura Power and how our 711-megawatt Halton Hills Generating Station helps provide Ontario homes and businesses with reliable and affordable electricity when we need it most.
