Should you close the vents in rooms you don’t use? Most homeowners think so. 🤔
It feels like it should save energy. Less space to heat means less air needed. But your heating system is designed to move air through the whole home, and closing a vent doesn’t tell the furnace to produce less heat. 🔥
Here is what can happen instead:
🌬️ Pressure builds in the ductwork. Air still has to go somewhere, so closing too many vents can raise the pressure inside the ducts.
🚪 Airflow gets restricted. The furnace has to push air through fewer openings, which can make it work harder to do the same job.
⚖️ The balance of the system shifts. Rooms you do use can end up heating unevenly, and the system can run less effectively overall.
Closing vents isn’t a reliable way to lower your heating bill. It can make your system work less effectively. 🔧
If some rooms in your home never feel right, closing vents is not the fix. A maintenance visit looks at how your system is actually moving air, so you know where the issue is. 🏠
