Total Solar Eclipse Information

• A solar eclipse occurs when Grandmother Moon passes between Mother Earth and Brother Sun, thereby obscuring the view of sun
• There will be a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, at 3:17pm in Ohsweken, lasting until 3:20pm.
• The total eclipse reminds us of when the Haudenosaunee Confederacy joined under an eclipse back in 1142.

Responsible Viewing
• It's never safe to look directly at the sun! Do not look directly at the eclipse, only view the eclipse if you are wearing solar eclipse glasses, which are available at Six
Nations Public Library, White Pines Wellness Centre, Central Administration and theafely Soak in Nature's Tentewatá:ton/Dedwadad, Community Market that happens every Wednesday.
• Eclipse glasses are made to filter out 100% of harmful sun rays and 99.99% of intense visible light.
• Do not view the eclipse with your regular sunglasses or camera lenses.
• Put on and take off your eclipse glasses while looking at the ground, and wear over top prescription glasses.
