Do NOT plant goutweed. Please please please, don’t dig up and toss it in your local greenspace thinking nature will deal with it! It can’t! It’s an invasive and will burst into life.
Love this article.

While other spring plants are still pressing the snooze button, I’m already waking up! See those tiny, crinkled green and white leaves peeking through your mulch? That’s me—Goutweed. Some call me "Snow on the Mountain," but your neighbors? They call me their worst nightmare.

Think you can just pull me up? My underground roots are my secret weapon. Here’s the best part: every single tiny fragment you leave behind in that soil will sprout into a brand-new version of me. I don't just grow; I colonize.

Now, don’t get me wrong—native plants like Trilliums and Goldenrods colonize, too. But they play fair. I’m an invasive plant. I don’t just move in; I stage a rampant takeover, forming a dense mat of roots that chokes out our local wildflowers and destroys the food sources our Mississauga birds and bees depend on.

Whatever you do, stay away from ! If you attend their April 25th workshop (https://www.bloomingboulevards.org/service-page/native-plants-for-tough-sites-2?referral=service_list_widget), they’ll show you how to replace me with native plants.

If you need to prune those oaks, do it now!

If you need to prune those oaks, do it now!

🌳 Last chance to prune oak trees!

With no prune season coming up for your oak trees, plan to do your pruning soon.

We urge you to refrain from pruning oak trees during the no-pruning season, which runs from April until November. Pruning or otherwise damaging oak trees during this time makes them especially vulnerable to oak wilt disease.
