By changing the rate class, over half of seasonal ratepayers will see an average increase of $650 a year to their hydro bills, or an increase of 50%+. While this hike is phased-in over years, it has already been approved and will start next year.

Ontario cottagers will likely see a change in their hydro bills starting next year. Last September, the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) tasked Hydro One with Hydro One plans to start phasing out the seasonal ratepayers class by 2022, potentially doubling some cottagers' hydro bills.

For remote communities, solar farms make great sense. Indigenous lands no longer need large clearing of land for roads to haul diesel or hydro lines. The oilsands can offset their carbon footprint with developments like this.
