Building a home is a series of puzzle pieces that are put together in a certain sequence! There are a lot of pieces and it's not hard to imagine that sometimes either the wrong piece is used or it's put in out of sequence. This can lead to your home not meeting the desired outcome, whether that be asthetically or a performance target.

The other thing that I find with home building is that many of the things that are promised or talked about are vague! Which means it's not specified and therefore can't be measured, so it can never be determined if it was met.

There are metrics that diferentiate one home from another and in my opinion the only way to make sure those metrics are achieved is to test for them.

So I will not only specify exactly what metrics the home I will build for you will achieve but I will also test and show you that I've achieved those metrics.

Over the next few days I'll go through the 5 simple aspects that will make your home energy efficient and using up to 80% less energy that a conventional home, and I'll show you how I test to make sure I achieve them.

All too often I've seen builders and clients have disagreements during their build.

The culprit is often in the details, as the old saying goes "The Devil is in the details".

When the details are not defined from the beginning there may be a different expectation on how things should be done, some clients are not as experienced as the builder, so it's incumbent on the builder to make sure clients understand what is going to be done and how with some details. Good drawings and spending some time explaining how things will be done and how they will look once done can save lots of headaches down the road.

Material selection is also important so that both parties know exactly what will be used and it's easy to go back if they are substituted for something else.

Whether you're building your 1st home or next home there will be many options, and decisions will have to be made and sometimes you'll have to re-visit choices you thought were already made.

You have a vision for what you want to build and you want to make sure you share that vision with everyone involved.

Even with lots of decisions that need to be made this isn't that complicated, you just need to have the right people involved and on the same page.

That's where planning comes in, the day your build starts is not the day to share your design ideas with your builder. You see how you want your all aspects of your home, the builder needs to do things in behind the scenes and behind the walls that allows you to do what you want to do.

Planning is an integral part of your build that happens way before we put a shovel in the ground.

I can walk you through all aspects of your build, guide you through the pitfalls, suggest better alternatives and save you from aggravating moments and ensure you get what you want from building your new home.

I often see members of construction groups posting pics of their build and asking if what was done is acceptable and how to bring it up to their builder.

Often what was done is not what the person building the house was expecting.

I've seen this soooo many times, and I get that people want to educate themselves on how it should be done.

Building a house has many aspects to it and not everybody is well versed on each of those things since this is not what they do day in and day out. I also see that there are some contractors out there that are trying to take advantage of their clients which makes it that much harder for people to really know what they are getting.

I take the time to not only define exactly what it is we will be doing with drawings and verbal conversations but also resources to show them what is acceptable and what is not, so they can see with their own eyes if things are not done properly.

There are alot of things going happening on a job site and sometimes things get missed, I do my utmost best to try and verify everything is done correctly before we move on to the next step.

Communication is the key to making a project such as building a house go as smooth as possible.

There will be hick-ups, there will be things that will need to be changed because a lack of material or home owners changing their mind after having seen how it looks in real life, that's part of the building process we just have to make sure those lines of communication stay open.

Spending time planning helps get alot of details worked out prior to anything being that might have to be undone to make the change.
