40 years ago today, our father Gerald “Gerry” Cook incorporated Woodlawn Instruments Ltd.

Founded in 1981, in a tiny 10 x 12 lab in our home basement in Woodlawn, Ontario. This journey began with a vision, determination and a lot of hard work. All while Gerry was still working full-time for Sperry Gyroscope (Honeywell).

By 1984, the company had entirely outgrown the basement, leading to the bold decision to make Woodlawn Instruments a full-time operation. Dad left his position at Sperry Gyroscope, and Mom left her career to fully support her Husband and his dream.

Our family’s commitment to the business continued to grow with the next generation joining in. Ian joined the company in 1990, followed by Cathy in 1994, who both still run the operation to this day on behalf of the family.

Over the past four decades, we have grown from that small basement lab, to the old Hudson General hangar at the north end of the Ottawa International Airport, to the south end of YOW into what was the Esso Avitat FBO. Currently, in the same location as Gerry left it when he passed in 2022 – now Sky Service FBO.

We are beyond proud of our accomplishments and would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our employees, past & present, whose passion and commitment have been the cornerstone of our success. We also thank our loyal customers for their continued support and trust in us.

Thank you for the past 40 years!

Repair work proceeding on the hangar. The storm conveniently pulled back the roof right above the building’s electrical room.
