McKeown Contracting, a family owned and operated construction company, is currently hiring General Laborers. Operating in Ottawa and the surrounding areas, Mckeown Contracting specializes in heavy earthwork, site development, demolition, snow removal, environmental, and specialty projects.

This position is primarily field based working Monday to Friday from 7am-5pm with competitive wages based on experience.

This is a great position for someone looking to get into the trades with lots of room to advance in the company. McKeown Contracting is committed to supporting all of our team members in order for them to realize their full potential.

Main duties will include but are not limited to the following:

- Operate compaction equipment such as Gas Plates, Diesel Plates, Ride-on’s, etc.
- Direct traffic at or near construction sites.
- Level or remove granular material and earth to specific grades using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc.
- Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery and tools.
- Communicate effectively with heavy equipment operators, site supervisor, and fellow team members to ensure the work gets done in a safe and efficient manner.
- Check grades using survey equipment such as laser level.
- Sort demolition debris i.e., concrete, metal, and garbage.

Requirements

- Steel toe boots conforming to CSA standards.
- Ability to lift heavy objects at least 50lbs in weight.
- Ability to work with others and take direction from the foreman on site.
- Must have own reliable transportation.
- Physically fit, a certain amount of strength, dexterity, and alertness is required.
- Work 10 plus hours a day, 5 days a week and occasional nights and weekends.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment with changing weather at ground level, below grade, and from heights.

Assets

- Knowledge of GPS survey equipment.
- Highschool diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of First Aid and CPR
- Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary for construction.
- Any construction and/or safety certification.
