It's always a pleasure to tour old projects and checkout the progress. I’ve worked on Project Marketplace since 2018. Lots of design iterations later and construction is almost across the finish line. The amenity spaces are looking fantastic, and the penthouse pool / patio area view is spectacular. When you’ve been designing in the virtual space for years and when you finally walkthrough the physical built space, there’s a remarkable resemblance. Located on the Cheticamp Island, near Cape Breton Highlands National Park and world famous Cabot Trail. This area is notable for many artifacts left behind by the early French settlers (The Bretons and Basques). The Lapointe Museum will store and display these artifacts. 3D renderings were used to visualize the La Pointe Museum and optimize the seascape views. 3D surveyor coordinates were used to create a digital twin to replicate the virtual structure onto the terrain model. What an incredible project to be a part of!

3D exterior renderings were employed to visualize and satisfy city planning approvals. A new garage wing is being proposed for Project Agrand as well as other minor upgrades like roofline and material changes. This project had quite alot of fine detailing to be realized and represented accurately. This is one of those scenarios that complete modeling was not required so I simply modeled what was within the scope of the project. All of the camera angles were strategically selected to not show missing or incomplete portions of the 3d model. This was a quick turn around project and the final deliverables were only used internally for validation, simulation and for approvals.

3D exterior composite renderings were developed to explore exterior finishes and how they integrate within the contextual neighborhood. Optimized Revit data and composited renderings onto drone photography. This project is another long term one as it involves interior amenity spaces and typical suite renderings and interactives. Look out for this one in 2025.

Project Dessalines is a refinery in Haiti. These renderings were used in a proposal package to help visualize the overall concept. I could have used modeled or used pre-built refinery 3d models to develop the concept but I instead used photographs from the actual project site to convey realism and localization. For this project, I used AI re-lighting to help blend and transfer desired lighting characteristics to the 2D photographs. This is the first project I'm trying this technique on and I think it does a great job at interpreting 3D surfaces from 2D data. You select the desired "look" and then apply that look to the entire images. You can see different applications and moods created to the same photograph. Additional AI enhancements were used to remove unwanted infrastructure and add realism to the signage. I've been integrating AI into my workflow for much of 2024 and it's 1) saving me time 2) enhancing my output even more and 3) providing another business model / service to clients.

I've done quite a few projects in this part of my home town. Westboro. In fact, I did the neighbor's property right next door! Anyways, Project Westmount will be a longer term type project as I'm involved with the complete rendering package as well as interactive development. These renderings were used to articulate design requirements to the City of Ottawa planning department and the project got to proceed to construction. This will be a fun one with some awesome new clients. Let's gooooo!

Another spinoff project from a new client with some tropical vibes. For this quick turn around project, I used A! upscaling to enhance things like dirt, dead and discolored vegetation, imperfections, texture randomness, wear and tear. I find the trickiest is how AI interprets people. It has difficulty resolving, emotion, teeth, fingers, toes, basic anatomy, gender and race.. even if explicitly instructed. Despite the hype, we're still not there yet. These images still had quite abit post production work to remove incorrect AI outputs.

A quick raw animation of Project Madison I did a few weeks ago. Lots of behind the scenes tests on this one to produce this video. Optimizing setups for 1000s of frames. Next up, testing Nth frames and AI upscaling to see if there's any noticeable differences. Stay tuned.

AI is all the rage these days so I'm testing some new AI workflow tools on Project Madison. I received the updated landscaping design and applied it to my existing modeling. I decided to go super detailed on this one to push the AI. Conclusion: It does somethings well but not everything. I still have to spend time in post production tweaking so IMO no real net time gains only another tool in my workflow. Grass sampling is not the best but shrubs and flowers look more realistic. AI messes up with things like language and symbols (BMW logo, stop signs). I guess the tech will improve as this will be eventually incorporated directly into rendering engines from the get go. What do you think?
