Today our crew were practicing concreting edges ready for our backwater valve installs!
Many of our crew already do a great job and have lots of experience with concreting, however we have new people who joined us recently and Captain Dave wanted to show how to do it properly to look as good as it can be!
He also shared how important health and safety is during concreting with concrete dust and proper PPE.

Last week, Captain Dave and some of our office crew attended one of the city's flooding info sessions and it was very useful.
The information provided was excellent and there were many desks where people could ask about insurance, clean up help, permits and the RPPP program.
It was also great to see some of our clients there too :)
This infographic sheet was one of the handouts- it is a wonderful tool on how to protect your home from flooding.
The main thing really is maintenance.
Flooding is more likely to happen as our climate changes so please prepare your home just in case.

A good option from the city if you had flooding.

If you were impacted by the July 1 extreme weather event, we recognize that recovery can be a long and challenging process.

Property owners whose property could not be used normally, or whose property's normal use was disrupted by repairs for at least three months, may be eligible for a cancellation, reduction, or refund of a portion of their 2026 property taxes.

Applications must be submitted by February 28, 2027. Please include photos of the damage and any supporting documentation.

This morning, Captain Dave was at a job to meet with a city inspector and the inspector mentioned that he had failed the first inspection he did (before seeing our job) because the Backwater Valve was NOT installed by a licensed plumber (or a licensed plumbing apprentice).
There are many people offering very cheap backwater valve installs right now- please do your due diligence when looking for an installer.
🚀Licensed professionals will know to install the valve the correct way (it's important)
🚀 The city will not pass an install if the company is not using a licensed expert. (they can tell when it's been done by a handyman)
🚀 If in doubt, check the Skilled Trades Ontario website to see if the plumber entering your home is on the register.

A big shout out to our office crew today for fielding flooded basement calls and arranging the many permit requests and appointments for backwater valve installs.
They have been BUSY!
