Got busy this evening and finally turned the corner — literally 😄

The front lower corner is now sided and it’s amazing how much difference even this section makes. The old garage is slowly disappearing and the finished building is starting to show through.

Still plenty to do, but every few rows gets it looking that much closer. 🔨

Today’s progress.

The front is finally starting to look like a building again rather than a demolition site. More Tyvek on, the siding is moving across, scaffold up, and the right-hand bay is getting cleaned up and ready for the next stage.

Even the storage shed got wrapped while we were at it.

Still plenty to do, but comparing it to where it was even a short time ago, the difference is pretty satisfying.

Another good day of progress on the old garage restoration.

Today we started installing the exterior siding using new corner pieces, starter strip and J-mould from RONA EN, while also recycling the original white siding removed from the The Former ‘Oddfellow’s 297 Mayflower Lodge’ - Parham on

A good combination of new materials and reclaimed ones — keeping costs sensible, reducing waste, and giving perfectly usable material a second life.

The recycled siding has been stacked outside in the garden for some time, so once the installation is complete the whole exterior will get a proper power wash and clean-up.

Bit by bit, it’s coming back to life.

A little piece of the old garage is back in service. 🇬🇧🔧

We’ve set up a proper counter area using the original shop counter from the 1960s.

It’s battered, marked and full of character — exactly how it should be. Rather than replace it with something modern, we wanted to keep one of those authentic pieces that connects the restored workshop to the building’s working past.

Now it’s back doing the job it was built for, more than sixty years later - still yet to insulate & cover walls but it’s found its place

Quick run down to RONA EN Kingston on Gardiners Road today and, as usual, excellent service through my RONA Pro VIP account. The team were great, helped me get everything together and even gave me a hand loading it into the trailer — very much appreciated.

The contractor-rate discounts made a real difference too. Picked up the outside corners, starter trim and J-mould I need for the next stage of the job.

Best part is that I’ll be able to use all of this with the original vinyl siding I carefully saved from the The Former ‘Oddfellow’s 297 Mayflower Lodge’ - Parham on rather than throwing perfectly usable material away.

A bit of practical upcycling — reusing what we already have, matching it with the new trim components, and giving the old siding another life on the building.

Siding is next. 🔨🏠

Started getting the new power outlets in for the garage’s new electrical service — going with 20A receptacles around the walls, about 4 ft off the floor, with GFCI protection where required.

Slowly turning it back into a proper working garage.

Took all day to realign the side door frame to the entrance door and get the RONA EN Typar up.
