Dykstra Construction Limited is looking for a knowledgeable Apprentice Carpenter with quality workmanship to join our team. Our team has completed a diverse range of projects both residentially and commercially. Our focus is large renovations and new builds.

Requirements:
• Two-year Carpentry program diploma from accredited college or approved
apprenticeship in progress
• Criminal Record check
• First Aid, WHMIS and Fall Arrest considered an asset
• Previous experience as apprentice considered an asset
• Hard working, reliable, punctual with a willingness to learn
• Physically capable of lifting, unloading and carrying materials on jobsite
• Provide own PPE (work boots, eye protection, etc.) – some financial
assistance/discounts available
• Provide own hand tools (measuring tape, hammer, square, tool belt)
• Provide own reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
• Able to follow direction and abide by safety requirements
• Informed decision making based on Building Code Specs
• Able to maintain a safe work environment compliant with OH&S standards

Hours of Work:
Monday – Friday 8:00am-4:30pm – occasional overtime

Hourly Rate:
$20-$25/hour. Negotiable as per years of industry experience, additional training, and other relevant experience. Room for advancement after 1 year of service.

Benefits:
1. Health and dental benefits – shared cost with employer (50%)
2. Paid training – First Aid, Fall Arrest, etc
3. Team Building Activities & Meals throughout the year.

Anticipated Start Date: October 21st 2024

One of the many projects that have kept us busy this week! We transformed this small bathroom into an accessible bathroom with shower.

We widened the door, brought the wall out to allow room for a wall-mounted toilet, installed a walk-in shower and completed it with in-floor heat 🔥

It’s been awhile since we’ve posted… so we thought we’d finally share our new home!

Our home was built using a passive home design.

We used Nudura Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) for the foundation and the walls.

The basement has R36 walls, R35 underslab insulation.

The main walls are R46. The attic is R100.

Triple pane windows and doors were used to help achieve maximum energy efficiency. We also situated the house South-Facing to maximize solar heat gains in the winter months.

Our home is solar and net zero ready.

Our final blower door test showed 0.26 Air Changes per hour and our resulting Energuide number is 37 GJ/year. For reference, a typical house the same size as ours, would use approximately 77GJ/year.
