The importance of ceiling / attic ventilation should never ignored . Luckily we caught this clients issue in the nick of time . We were called to the site for a simple suspected roof leak and found this . Due to absolute no ceiling ventilation the rafters and roof decking had built up moisture to the point of completely rotting . If this situation would have been ignored it could have cause catastrophic damage ( collapsed ceiling) . The original roofing (shingles ) had no damage and no leaks. Luckily we were able to keep the existing T & G cedar ceiling intact to preserve the original look of the beutiful interior of the old cottage throughout the rebuilding process . With new soffit and ridge vents this issue should never arise again .
