🦺 Happy Labour Day from Scouten Engineering!

As the unofficial end of summer arrives, Labour Day gives us an opportunity to recognize the people whose skill, dedication, and hard work help build the communities where we live, work, and grow. ☀️

Labour Day was created to honour workers and the progress made toward safer workplaces, fair working conditions, and greater respect for the contributions of working people. It is a reminder that every successful project is made possible by the people behind it.

From the office to the field—and everywhere in between—we’re grateful for the engineers, technologists, drafters, contractors, tradespeople, project teams, and support staff who keep projects moving across Northern BC and beyond.

This is also a chance to step away from the drawings, tools, emails, and deadlines, enjoy one more taste of summer, and take a well-earned break. 🌲

☀️ It’s the last Monday of August—and somehow summer is already preparing its close-out documents and running out of energy.

The long days are getting shorter, the mornings are getting cooler, and projects across Northern BC are entering that familiar “let’s get this wrapped up before fall” phase. If you are in Northern BC, you just know that this timeline is tight.

At Scouten Engineering, we’re still making the most of every remaining summer day—advancing designs, completing field reviews, solving site challenges, helping projects move forward, and even taking on new projects in our sleep. 🦺

Here’s to a strong finish to August, a few more sunny days, and plenty of good work still ahead.

🏗️ Progress Is Taking Shape with this warehouse in Prince George!

There is something pretty satisfying about watching a project move from plans on a page to real progress on site.

Work is well underway on this new 2,640 ft² warehouse.
From concrete and site work to the building frame taking shape, it is exciting to see everything coming together.

Scouten Engineering is proud to be working alongside CTC Construction Systems, Cool Heat Truck Parts, NRS Engineering, and Mirkwood Engineering to help bring this project to life.

A lot of teamwork, coordination, and problem-solving has gone into reaching this stage—and we are looking forward to seeing the finished result!

📚✏️ Back-to-school season is almost here! 🎒🍎

The final week of August is here and students across Northern BC are getting ready for earlier mornings, packed lunches, new classrooms, and a fresh year of learning.

At Scouten Engineering, we know that strong foundations matter — whether they are built in the classroom, in our communities, or on a project site. Every new school year brings opportunities to learn, grow, solve problems, and build confidence.

To the students heading back, the families helping them prepare, and the educators getting their classrooms ready, we wish you a safe, successful, and exciting school year ahead!

Thursday evening, a few of the Women of Scouten traded drawings and deadlines for drivers and putters at the Women in Construction Tee Up Golf Networking Event at Alder Hills Golf Course. ⛳ Hosted by the NRCA - Northern Regional Construction Association

We hit some balls, enjoyed some great food, shared a few laughs, and made some new connections along the way. 🏌️‍♀️

It was such a fun evening and a great opportunity to connect with other women working across the construction industry.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the event such a success — we’re already looking forward to next year. 😍

🎉 Scouten Engineering is 31 years old, and yes, the coffee has been load-bearing the whole time.

That’s 31 years of drawings, deadlines, field reviews, problem-solving, muddy boots, redlines, and coffee, SO MUCH COFFEE. ☕

Over the years, Scouten has grown, changed, and written new chapters — including when Dave Scouten sold the company and Ben, Kyle, and Craig took the reins to continue building on the foundation he started.

Another chapter brought us to Genelle, where our second location has helped us keep growing, connecting, and serving communities across BC.

The number 31 means some of our team members have been alive longer than Scouten Engineering has been serving Prince George… and some of us have not.
Looking at you, Aidan, Hunter, Chille, and Oliver. Young, talented, and already helping write the next chapter.

From roads and bridges to buildings, parks, industrial sites, and community infrastructure, we’re grateful for the clients, communities, contractors, consultants, and team members who have been part of the journey. 🏗️

Here’s to 31 years of thinking beyond — from Prince George to Genelle, and everywhere the next chapter takes us. 🌲

🏔️ Small community. Big surroundings.

Scouten Engineering is proud to currently be working on a project in Haines Junction, Yukon, supporting infrastructure beyond British Columbia and across Canada’s North. 🧡

Haines Junction, Yukon, may be home to fewer than 700 people, but the scenery surrounding it is anything but small.

Located along Highway 1—the historic Alaska Highway—Haines Junction sits on the route stretching north toward Alaska. 🛣️

Surrounded by the St. Elias Mountains and located beside Kluane National Park and Reserve, the town is framed by towering, snow-covered peaks. ❄️ Snow remains on the highest elevations year-round, while fresh snowfall gradually moves down the mountains in the fall and can stay well into spring.

You can drive from one end of town to the other in about five minutes—although the views may convince you to slow down and take your time.

Around the summer solstice, Haines Junction enjoys more than 19 hours of daylight, with twilight making the evenings feel even longer. ☀️

Small town. Endless daylight. Unforgettable views.

🍊 Happy Creamsicle Day from Scouten Engineering!

Orange, red, and blue? Apparently, creamsicles have expanded their colour palette — but we’ll admit we’re still a little partial to the orange ones.

Today, we’re celebrating the unofficial treat of summer: the creamsicle. Cool, classic, colourful, and a pretty solid excuse to take a break from drawings, deadlines, and redlines.

Whether you’re on site, in the office, or trying to convince yourself that frozen treats count as lunch, we hope you find a little time today to enjoy something sweet.

Red, blue, or Scouten orange — no redlines today. Just frozen treats and brain freeze. 🥶

Cristina’s first site visit with Scouten was one to remember and right up her alley. 😉

A trip up the Mount Fitzwilliam Trail to Rockingham Creek meant tackling 5.9 km of steep, technical singletrack to assess a 60-foot bridge crossing scheduled for replacement. With all materials needing to be packed in or flown in by helicopter, understanding the site access is a critical part of the project.

Fortunately, BC Parks generously loaned Cristina a Kona e-bike for the journey. The pedal-assist made a huge difference on what would otherwise have been a gruelling climb, likely involving plenty of “hike-a-bike” sections.

The ride back down was just as memorable. Rain set in, the trail turned muddy, and by the time she made it back to the trailhead, Cristina was covered head to toe in mud—but smiling the whole way.

Not every bridge replacement starts with a truck and a crane. Sometimes it starts with a bike ride into the backcountry.

Thanks to BC Parks for the loaner bike and the opportunity to work in one of British Columbia’s incredible backcountry settings. Cristina had a great time!
